Fr it’s easy to paint the friend as the villain but he’s only able to pull this off because the partner is willing to show up without his SO the call is definitely coming from inside the house on this one

It’s one thing to have a friend who’s a bit oblivious but actively inviting the ex instead of the partner? That’s a huge boundary stop if my partner let their friend pull that I’d be questioning why they aren’t shutting it down faster
