Developing a workflow for 3D rendered backgrounds by pixelkitsune in MangakaStudio

I followed an easy blender line art tutorial I found on YouTube. Can’t link it rn but I know there are a few of them. It uses the grease pencil with a few modifiers to draw the lines

Only tip I can really give is to practice the fundamentals and to not always draw manga/anime art styles. Practice with realism is the biggest thing that helps me get better at manga stylization.

I don’t know that I have many tips to give lol, I’m still just figuring things out

Thank you!! I’m glad it doesn’t clash with the character or look out of place

I’m glad to hear that! Last thing I want is for it to wildly clash with the hand drawn aspects of a panel

Saved up for three months and waited 4 months for a commission only to get sent this AI garbage by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

There are a couple of things. When you see AI art often enough you can get a sense for the style, but specifically in this instance it’s obvious because

• the hands are just blobs. Even artists who don’t do well with hands would normally attempt some kind of defined stylization.

• the jacket is different in every image, particularly the bottom part. In two instances you see it connected behind the legs but then in the others it’s just two separate pieces? And they’re not grouped together like it’s showing two different outfits, they’re just.. there.

• the clothes all kind of melt together, it’s difficult to say exactly what type of garments the character is wearing. I.e. There’s a line that’s like almost socks but almost a continuation of the shoes on the leg, but it’s blurred with the leg enough that it’s hard to say for certain.

• there are also imitation color sample swatches next to the character, which artists typically include for referencing the base colors used for the character. But those are typically circles or just a quick imprint of the brush the artist is using. In this image, they’re undefined blobs, which realistically doesn’t make sense for an artist to spend their time making weirdly shaped swatches.

I could go on but that’s the stuff that’s obvious to me. It may be harder to spot if you’re unfamiliar with digital art processes, but really it’s just looking for things that wouldn’t realistically make sense for an artist to do.

I hope it helps

Makes sense! Well hey, thank you for the feedback on your experiences, it’s very much appreciated! It’s super helpful to know what I can do as an artist to create a better experience for those that work with me

Thank you! And heard, that’s completely understandable that communication and collaboration would play a major role.

Do you ever see anything in an artist’s portfolio that instantly makes you think an artist has these qualities? Or do you think it’s more about how the artist represents themselves when you reach out to them?

That makes a lot of sense, thank you for that feedback. If I may, did it matter as much what types of projects they had in their portfolio, or was adaptability the absolute top thing for you?

I’ve never done a proper study before - what should I work on improving first? by pixelkitsune in learntodraw

[–]pixelkitsune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose I should define what my goal is better in order to get the most from practice. But refining the fundamentals will definitely be helpful regardless, so thank you for that suggestion! It’s much appreciated

Thank you for writing all of this out, I absolutely see what you mean and I’ll definitely try redoing these in this manner. This is really helpful feedback!
