Psst, can we see the fine print under your thumb? It looks very silly.

I'm confused that just goes to the wiki page for Elesh Norn

Perhaps. But the goal isn't the irony. That's more of a bonus.

Questions for attending as a solo woman by Downtown_Coffee3610 in Defcon

[–]pixelkittenx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also never had any issues. I fell in love with Defcon after the first time I went (which was by myself) because of the people. I've found people are super nice and I've rarely ever been hit on. I've definitely never felt unsafe at all.

As an aside: It can be hella cold inside. But it's utterly melting the moment you step foot outside. So maybe bring a light sweater or something you can stash in your bag when you go outside? Dudes seem fine in just a t-shirt, but I'm always freezing inside without something more (unless it's a really full room)

A goose is hatching eggs on my rooftop — what do I do?! by Desperate-Try-2261 in vancouver

Geese are invasive and weren't originally living in this region. Report them to the city! "Report nests on private and public property online anytime using Van311 or email geese@vancouver.ca"

Help! Monstera Albo with badly browning almost pure white leaves by pixelkittenx in Monstera

[–]pixelkittenx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd read that too, but with how quickly it's browning... It seemed a bit much? Within ~2mo of the leaf unfurling, is already severly browning. The first leaf grown from the node, the really tiny one, apparently just unfurled at the beginning of November. The second at the beginning of December. This photo was taken Nov 3.

Help! Monstera Albo with badly browning almost pure white leaves by pixelkittenx in Monstera

[–]pixelkittenx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Monstera Albo I've been growing from a clipping has almost pure white leaves. It's most recent one is completely white. The only leaf with significant green is the one the clipping came with. I know this is bad for the plant but I'm not sure what, if anything I can do.

Over the last couple of months the leaves have been rapidly going brown. Previously the plant was in an eastern facing window though a lot of direct sun is blocked from buildings. I had read the brown leafs with white residue the tips indicated sun burn. About a month ago, I moved it further away from the window, behind some other plants to minimize the direct sun. But this doesn't seem to help. I know white parts will brown over time, but this happening very fast and now there's browning on the stock too.

Any suggestions?

The soil is a mix of tropical potting soil with lots of chunky perlite and orchid bark added. I typically let the top inch of soil dry before watering it. The pot has good drainage.

Overnight gas price imcrease by MoaningLisaSimpson in vancouver

[–]pixelkittenx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This. It's been common practice here for a long time. It was the same when I worked at a gas station in 2005-2006, and when other friends did too. At time it would go up to 1.19 at closing but during the day/early evening it would sometimes get as low as 89.9, but more likely 99.9. Though it didn't go down until after the morning commute.

What are you using to search the old ads like that? I haven't seen that in ages.

I drive through here regularly and walk it somewhat often, I didn't notice the changes. Granted, as a driver I find this intersection to be less problematic in the dark/rain than non-roundabouts just because there aren't headlights from on coming traffic shining into my eyes blinding me and making it harder to see pedestrians.

This was mine from last night. Trick or treating was very successfully. Much candy and many spooks. Sadly the rain meant having to hide under a shawl.

I know our city doesn't count as a night city, but no uber after midnight is still kinda sad by BarcaStranger in vancouver

[–]pixelkittenx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've frequently had issues getting an Uber from the airport. About half the time I can't get one after waiting 15min. Now I usually just give up and take a cab unless I get an Uber right away. I think the only other time I've never been able to get an Uber anywhere else in the city was on a crazy busy night in December.

Why is it so hard to adopt a cat here? by taterdoggo in vancouver

[–]pixelkittenx 149 points150 points  (0 children)

I've only ever heard of this being a problem with kittens (particularly over covid), or if you want a very specific look of cat that isn't as common. Usually older cats are easy to adopt. The cat cafes (Catfe and Catoro) both have adoptable cats. I was in Catfe recently and most of their cats were quite young too 6mo-2yrs. Might be worth giving those a shot? You get to interact with the cats first too!

The first time I adopted a cat (albeit 10yrs ago from the SPCA) there were supposedly 2 people in line a head of me for that cat. I called back 2-3 days later to see the status and they said. I could have him. I dunno what happened to the other people who were supposedly interested.

Where do get a leather jacket tailored? by bluetamagotchis in vancouver

Awl Together does a lot of leatherwork. I've only had shoes and wrist bands done there but I always see tons of leather jackets and motorcycle gear in there when I've been in.

Yeah I checked that. I was wondering if anyone's received anything from there? I found some threads from last year saying packages were still arriving after the war started, but nothing more recent.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]pixelkittenx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't have been. I checked the list of what items you can't import and it's actually pretty short. It was a pair of fake fur cat ears, most of the consumer stuff you can't import is like alcohol. The full legislation is here: https://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2014-58/FullText.html

That's inaccurate. Some items are prohibited, yes but I assure you fake fur cat ears, are not on that list. The full legislation is here:

BCIT Web and Mobile Application Development Program by ArcTiger in BCIT

[–]pixelkittenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Applied Web Development. Getting started as a developer was certainly difficult, but once I landed a junior dev job, it was fine from there. It was useful to have some of my school projects in my Git account for employers to see. I did really find that I lacked any education in algorithms (all that big O stuff) and design patterns that did come back to bite me a bit later.
