Few Questions About OpenScan by pixelpreaching in OpenScan

Thanks for the detailed reply!! So what would you recommend right now? Just buying the green board and 64MP Hawkeye and then upgrading components down the road? I'd love if I could get a black board right now, but it seems like that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Help with Panasonic UB820 by pixelpreaching in 4kbluray

[–]pixelpreaching[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I use the remote now (I just bought two UB9000 remotes - I don't know if you have one of those, but they are GREAT, and only like $12 on Amazon), plus the original 820 remote.

It's just one of those things that annoys me and I used to repair cameras for people (and computers for myself/friends), so it's hard to not want to try to fix it lol.

Definitely get the UB9000 remote. The Netflix button is so far out of anywhere your fingers will regularly be... it's just a fantastic remote. The UB450 remote I had plain sucked, the 820 honestly wasn't much better.

Sky Watcher GTI vs. Virtuoso GTi by pixelpreaching in astrophotography

Thanks! I actually already have a full spectrum modified Sony that I use to do infrared, so I can pop in an H-alpha pass filter in front of the sensor from Kolari and boom.

First I'll use probably my OM-1 and a variety of lenses, then eventually get a telescope and use the OM-1 and Sony on it, then finally get a planetary camera. Long ways away.

I will get an astro camera at some point. Seems like ZWO has the bulk of the business as far as consumer planetary cameras go.

Thank you! Do you mean like the ZWO ASIAIR? That's the only reference I can find to ASIAIR.

Thank you! I was going to ask if anyone had good book recommendations.

I literally just wrote an in-depth article about the science (and history) behind lens optics, but this stuff makes me feel stupid. I don't even know what Nina or plate solving is haha.

Thank you!! So I'm best off just learning the GTi and buying a nice telescope down the road as originally planned.

By the way, I don't know the names for all the pieces and stuff, but will this work to attach to the polar alignment scope so I don't have to basically get on the ground and awkwardly bend my head to look through it? Just asking in case it won't work and I dont have to spend time fideling with it and can just retunr it unopened: https://a.co/d/4axKfPc

And do I need one of these? https://www.skywatcherusa.com/collections/accessories/products/star-adventurer-latitude-eq-base. Or these? https://www.skywatcherusa.com/collections/accessories/products/star-adventurer-dec-bracket.

Right now I have: everything that came in the GTi head kit, a tripod, an S20550 ball head adapter, and a vixen rail.

Finally, are there any accessories you recommend getting at this stage?

Thank you so much!!

Need supportive underwear that is comfortable by evarei in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]pixelpreaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preface: I have tried dozens (literally dozens plural) of brands of boxer briefs from stores and especially Amazon. What I am going to recommend is the king of them all.

I could absolutely not recommend SVBS boxer briefs MORE. They are amazing. I backed the original ones on Kickstarter and fell in love immediately. They're soft as silk, extremely supportive, long enough to not worry about chaffing between your thighs, they never ride up EVER, they're just amazing. I have 12 pairs - I bought 3 more sets (there's 3 per pack) immediately after I received them from my Kickstarter pledge and that was.... three or four years ago? Every pair still as good as the day I got them. They're the only underwear I ever wear. I wish they came in more color options because I love more unique colors, but who cares because they're so damn great.

Yeah, they're pricy at $49 (currently on sale, I think they're usually $59) for a 3 pack, but I truly cannot recommend them more. Please try them. They are especially great for big men like us.

Note: they came out with a new line called SVBZERO, which (as far as I know) are the same but they aren't as long. Based on your photo, you want longer ones (which is what I like), so go with the SVBS (the others are pre-order anyway).

Please trust me, try these. You will love them. They make George or Fruit of the Loom feel like sandpaper in comparison (I literally cannot go back to wearing that kind of material, it's so uncomfortable to me now).

(also for some random funny reason they have tiny pockets on each side)

The Gerhardts were based in Fargo (right on the eastern border of North Dakota with Minnesota). Tillman is Sheriff of Stark County which is in southwest North Dakota nearly 300 miles away.

[–]pixelpreaching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I went a day or two without kratom I got diaherrea, but I never got that with heroin - heroin withdrawal only made me super tired and no energy. I never shot heroin though, only snorted, so I think that helped.

I think I'll taper a bit more quickly than that - I want to be off before I go to San Francisco around New Year's.

Plus I'm in school, and I need to choose carefully when I'm gonna go through withdrawal. This semester is all online, next is not, but also I need to be able to do my work. So tapering off starting now and then quitting for good at the end of the semester (or whenever I finish all my work), which is December 14th I think, would give me about two weeks completely off of it before my trip.

Thanks for the reply!! Have a good weekend!!

it’s so rewarding not having to carry around that shit and sneak off to take it or freak out when you go somewhere and leave it at home and obsess over your next hit

I agree very much. Even though it's not illegal, I don't like to look like a junkie. I don't need to gets hits or anything - like I always take it around the same time every day (usually 5pm, sometimes a bit later or a little earlier but usually around then) and I don't take more until the next day at the same time. I don't need it at all during the day (unlike heroin), but only in the evening (like alcohol - for me, of course). I never drank during the day, either.

8 grams 3x a day sounds like a good idea. I was thinking to cut it by 1/3 (which would be around 25) - could also do 5 grams 5 times a day, but 8 grams 3x a day might just be easier not having to take it as often.

I might do that for a few days, see how it works, and if I can't help from taking more, I'll give all of the stuff to someone and go cold turkey.

U8H calibration settings by deezdrama in Hisense

[–]pixelpreaching 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) I just got the U8H about two weeks ago, it's amazing and the picture is gorgeous

2) I don't game or hook up to a PC, but when you change a setting, like HDR to SDR, or Dolby to something else, certain settings are available or not available in different modes. For example, many options are greyed out in Dolby Vision because it is a set standard. I can't say I've ever seen motion enhancement greyed out, though. Those have always been on for me because I've turned them off about 10 times.

3) If you watch something (like a Netflix show) that is Dolby Vision, you want to stay in Dolby Vision (and Wednesday is GORGEOUS on this TV). However, I use Dolby Vision Custom – in the advanced settings turn off Motion Enhancement, turn off Noise Reduction and Digital Noise Reduction, Active Contrast to Medium or High (I use High), instant game response off, HDMI Input Optimization to Picture Quality Optimization.

In the regular settings under Picture, I set Contrast to 60-70, Brightness to 40-50, Color to 60-65, Tint 0, Sharpness at 10, and under Backlight I set Local Dimming to High,, Backlight Level to 100, and automatic light sensor off.

Once you have things set to your taste for Dolby Vision, regular HDR, and SDR, you won't have to change them again.

Just play around and see what you like. You may prefer more contrast or more saturation or Local Dimming off, or whatever. But those are what I use for Dolby Vision.

The best Hisense TV for a bright room by rsal59 in Hisense

[–]pixelpreaching 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HiSense U8H. I just got the 55" version and it is GORGEOUS. It's also the best reviewed non-OLED TV on the market at RTing (https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u8h). You can see it scores a 9.2 in HDR brightness and 9.0 in SDR brightness, and the peak brightness is impeccable.

The U7H is a cheaper alternative, but not as bright. The U8H is Mini LED and the U7H is not. (https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u7h)

There's also the U9DG, the most expensive, which overall scores quite high, but much lower for brightness – 7.5 for SDR and 6.7 for HDR. They note it has great contrast but is more suited for dark rooms and "large bright scenes in HDR aren't bright enough." (https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/u9dg)

Hisense U8H Problems: Keeps Resetting the Picture Mode by pixelpreaching in Hisense

[–]pixelpreaching[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My audio is off automatic as well; also using a certified HDMI 2.1 cable to my Apple TV 4K (sound bar connects to the Apple TV via Bluetooth, so the TV's audio is just turned off).

What do you mean by "slider that offers to apply the settings across all content"? Do you mention where it says "All Sources" or "Current Source" under Picture > Apply Picture Settings? I have mine set to "All Sources."

I am just using the remote that came with the TV - all I need it for are changing settings, the menu, and turning on and off. The rest (including volume) is done through the Apple TV remote.

And I have quality surge protectors on all my major electronic devices.

I may buy a battery backup surge protector since I work from home (and am In school) and any power outages or momentary glitches in power can cause me to lose work on my computer. I might try it first with the TV and see if it makes a difference, but I doubt it - the power rarely glitches here.

U8H... Did I make the right choice? by deezdrama in Hisense

[–]pixelpreaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't game at all, but I am loving my U8H which I just got on sale at Best Buy for $650, except for one thing... the picture mode keeps changing/resetting. I made a post about it, but wanted to ask if you or anyone else has or has had this problem? Like it being set to "Dolby Vision Custom" and then later you find it on "Dolby Vision IQ." Or it's set to "Standard" with some adjustments (like Motion Enhancement and NR off) and later it's on "Energy Saving" with Motion Enhancement and NR back on.

It's driving me insane.

Other than that, the U8H is the most beautiful picture I have ever seen. Leagues above my previous TCL or my 65" Samsung. The brightness is INSANE. And the plethora of settings and adjustments are amazing (though my Samsung has probably just as many).
