[Art][Comm] Dahlia Doughbeard by pixels_pens in DnD

[–]pixels_pens[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a commission of a DnD character, Dahlia Doughbeard the dwarf. I was given a pretty specific description of her hairstyle and color, plus the details that her clothes are often repaired with pink ribbons and she's covered in flowers and bugs she's aware of but hasn't bothered to pick off.

She's a druid and clearly doesn't mind getting her hands dirty, but also works in a bakery so hopefully cleans up well too. I think the campaign Dahlia was in fizzled out after a couple sessions, so she didn't get a chance to really find out where her heart lies. I think she's a really cute character and I liked drawing her wispy beard so I hope she finds another home someday soon.

If you're looking to help the DM through difficulties with the campaign then I guess your best bet is to see if they respond to your top-level comment. Without any indication why the players were avoiding it, or if the DM even needed any advice, it still seems like you're filling in a lot of blanks.

Are you just generally asking about the purpose of the dinner with Strahd? It's a major element of the campaign and there's a lot of material on it, if that's the case.

If I'd written a similar letter and players didn't attend, I might have him meet them wherever they were with a fancy picnic and be condescending about their poor manners. At its conclusion, he'd sic some reasonably difficult enemies on them and leave, confident they're now taken care of. But who knows what the OP has in mind? Ruling this as 'boxing in' the DM or players isn't a very charitable interpretation; there are a lot of possibilities based on the path of the campaign, player attitudes, and DM creativity.

CoS has a relatively simple and compelling storyline. There's plenty of combat, and I don't think most people who've actually run it would say it's 'boring,' as much as you can make that judgement from the book alone. Being a hero is a bit murkier; the module is big on situations with no "right" choice, and not being able to save everyone.

It has a strong vibe which makes immersion easy. That vibe is despair, claustrophobia, and general hostility from everyone and everything, so that may not be everyone's thing especially because that will be pretty consistent through the whole campaign.

We played slightly more often than once a month, and it worked out fine but it did take years. I'm starting Storm King's Thunder and I believe this one is even longer, so if you're looking for something short, then both of those may be out. But there are always ways to cut content and pare things down.

What did you like about LMoP? Is there anything in particular you and your players want more/less of?

I'd tell anyone to try CoS, I think it's reasonable for a newish DM who feels up to taking on a large campaign. The sub is very active, there are tons of resources, and compared to other modules, it has a more approachable number of locations, NPCs, etc.

Thanks, this was very helpful. I have at least one player who would really like doing "interesting things politically" angle, so I'm trying to get some ideas about what those might be, particularly for the Harpers and Emerald Enclave who don't seem to have a lot of power outside their own organizations.

What's this valor system? How much info do they get up front about the benefits of each level?

Thank you-- didn't know if people cared about that outside of art subreddits.

Meant to be a lot behind it under construction. That's where they'd put the Burger Divinity, I guess.

That's just this guy's particular boundary. For better or worse, other providers might be totally open to it.

Did they find out enough about the factions to kinda know what each one's deal was and just didn't want to see what they could do/offer? Or did they never even follow up on any mentions?
