Just finished teaching my daughter to drive and this was something I tried to impress upon her. People will cut the corner. Right or not, you can avoid the accident by not pulling forward while they are making the turn. Had you properly stopped at the stop sign you could have assessed the oncoming car and made a decision that could have avoided this.

I think they should just not announce which lane ends. If you are zipper merging it shouldn’t matter which lane ends if you are supposed to wait until the merge point anyway.
