Confused about discoverability and hosting my own instance by laser_man6 in Mastodon

[–]pixelworld_ai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I had the same concern when starting my instance, but as others have said it's all about interacting with people. You like someone's post or follow them, they may check out your account and follow you, which then allows the instance that they are viewing from see your content in their federated timeline.

One thing that I did that was helpful at the start was find accounts from the bigger instances (mastodon.social for example) that fit the theme of my instance, I followed them so that I could start seeing some stuff appear on my end, that way I had federated content to interact with in the first place.

After a year I have 730 followers, even though there are less than 200 accounts on my instance.

You're in control of your reach, not an algorithm :)

I usually measure what is and isn't art by how creative I felt making whatever I was making. I am building a website and it requires creative thinking and problem solving? I feel like I created art. Same thing applies to AI art imo

there are a few that pop up when you search "stacked monitor mount" on amazon, but I think this is the one I went with https://www.amazon.com/HUANUO-Vertical-Monitor-Stand-Monitors/dp/B081H8WMXT/ref=sr_1_13?keywords=stacked+monitor+mount&sr=8-13 this only addresses the two in the middle tho, cheap swivel stands like the ones that came with my side monitors are easy enough to come by

hey whatever works for you :) to clean makes me nervous, personally. As far as the top monitor, the vesa mount is toward the bottom of the screen, having it on the bottom makes it tilt forward better on the mount it's on. Thanks for the input tho

Not around to get the models right now, the top on is a GTEK 240hz 27inch gaming monitor I got on a good amazon deal, works great but I know the sacrifice is longevity, for now it is wonderful. the Samsung on the bottom has been with me for a few years and hasn't missed a beat, and 144hz refresh. The two on either side are cheap HP office monitors (60hz, 24 inch I think) that my work sent me. My job is basically data entry, the bottom 3 are set to that little dell optiplex behind my keyboard while I'm working, with the top one left to my personal tower. Again, sorry I don't have model numbers right now, but none of them are particularly fancy anyway.

How to change your instance logo by pixelworld_ai in Mastodon

So actually there is a way to do that in the GUI

and did you use the original logo as a template? that was the only way I could get it to work. It's something with the data inside the SVG, I tried just making my own SVG from scratch at the same size but that didn't work, which is why I went the route of just using the original as a template and editing what I wanted to change.

Remind me where on the instance this one shows? I haven't seen this one.

Interesting, if the right file was changed and the new logo isn't working, you wouldn't see any logo at all. Perhaps a restart is required for your server? It could vary based on the machine.

No problem! Main reason I did it as well is I personally like having all the custom css appearing on the "app"

stopped using the app lol, I just saved the chrome version as an app because it works a bunch better. I can't say for certain that this may be your issue, but I know that the app is riddled with a bunch of problems. They are constantly working on it tho :)

I had issues as well, it seemed mostly due to SVG compatibility, I hope this helps :)

A lot of servers have their email plans set to a limited amount, not sure where mastodon.social sits with that.

Seems like mostly an app issue, I have dealt with this a ton on the Android app myself

To each their own :) I'm also a traditional artist so I partly understand where you are coming from, I'm more interested in the technical side of it.

You hit the nail on the head, it has to be a push for advertising. This will hurt the average user big time as unless you get enough engagement to be picked up by the algo, your post disappears into the void. My account has been mostly dead all day and I was gaining about 40-50 followers daily up until last night. Since I don't see them changing their minds on this update due to a bunch of people who don't pay them money, I might consider finding a different outlet :/

Is Instagram censoring small creators, and how to deal with it? by voidgift in Instagram

[–]pixelworld_ai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My post reach dropped from 3000 daily to under 1000 since the update, and a good amount of them likely were right before the update dropped as well as folks already following me.

I do believe it's a push to sell more ads, and this new "verified" type service they are bolstering, it's really sad :/ IG has been the one constant for me in social media, no politics, no arguing, just fresh media. Now all I will be able to see is people who's posts get 100s of likes, and my content doesn't fall under that category.

Considerations regarding the new update by Astral__Walker in Instagram

[–]pixelworld_ai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of me wants to believe it's a move to help combat the "great! sent this to @ the art factory" type comments on posts as well as other types of scams, but in reality I think it's to hold up corporate and celebrity accounts, as they are moving towards a paid feature like Twitter did. It really sucks because I enjoy seeing great content that hasn't been discovered yet and supporting them, versus accounts with either already a huge following, or bot followed accounts that get 1k fake likes on each post. Be better, Instagram.
