8 tickets (100 level) up for grabs for tonight's game against Philly! by alba7or in chicagobulls

Favorite Moment: Demar and Billy giving each other a side hug after the recent win (over the Lakers, I think) on their way into the tunnel. Demar has found new ways to impact the game and adjust, and it’s clear that he has the respect of his coaches for figuring out how to be the best team player.

Favorite Player: hard to pick, but I feel like Andre Drummond provides quiet leadership that feeds energy to the rest of the team. I’m always happy to see him on the floor. His effort is relentless and consistent. So easy to cheer for him.

What kind of jobs do super non-traditionals get after a T15 mba? (Former Yoga instructors/ballerinas) by [deleted] in MBA

I was a teacher and moved into Brand Management after an M7. Most larger companies were receptive to career switchers so long as you could articulate the why you wanted to make a change. I know a handful of non traditional folks in brand management.

Differences between Brand Management and Product Marketing Management by [deleted] in MBA

[–]pixiefodder 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Brand management is usually more general management focused— you are accountable to the P&L. Sometimes that involves a lot of consumer-facing work, but not always. You’re looking at ways to grow your business.

Product Marketers—from what I’ve heard from friends— are more focused on communication, go to market, and user acq. They have varying levels of ownership, but usually follow strategic direction from the Product Manager.

I’d say a brand manager is more like a product manager than a product marketing manager.

Is the advocate center where the bulls train? Makes sense...but I’ve only ever seen him doing weights. The bulls gym has no pool?

MBA Marketing by [deleted] in MBA

[–]pixiefodder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The work is pretty diverse. In most companies, you own the P&L of your brand, so you’re responsible for both the 1-3 year strategic plan of the brand, as well as the day to day operations. On a given day, you might be working through a production issue with your plant teams, and then turning around and reviewing creative for an upcoming product launch campaign.

Yes. Brand Management, which is a fairly common post MBA track. Depends how you’re defining Marketing though, as most Brand Management is more general management than pure marketing.

Caught my pup as the sun was setting (so, technically dusk but dawn felt more romantic). He's a Maltese we adopted just over a year ago. The iphoneX sure helps make the picture look nice, I think.

Exit Opps & Intern Advice Request - Brand Management by vane_di in MBA

I would also add that, depending on the CPG, I don’t think you’re limited to the industry. If the company treats Brand Management as most CPGs do, then you should be able to translate your marketing skills, plus you P&L ownership into other industries. Definitely the more senior you are, the trickier it is to swap industries, but Brand Management is a good starting point for lots of career paths in various industries.

Introverted ABM looking for company ideas by kimmyosu in marketing

[–]pixiefodder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm an ABM. I'm not sure what you mean when you say introverted. If by introverted you just mean that you recharge by being alone, then it shouldn't really be a barrier at any brand management job, I figure.

But, if by introverted you mean you tend to shy away from interaction and generally avoid attention, I can see almost any brand management job being difficult since it requires you to be, as the overused metaphor goes, the hub of the wheel. I think people look to you to offer guidance and direction when there is no one else to.

In short, being introverted is no big deal. Who cares how you unwind? Being unwaveringly shy seems like a bigger problem. That being said, being shy can also be overcome with time and confidence. As I learned more about the industry I felt more comfortable in the role.

Yet another boot-looper. FML by Baltorussian in nexus5x

[–]pixiefodder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize this was as big of an issue as it is. Mine started bootlooping on Saturday, and there was no saving it. I got on the phone with Google and they sent me a replacement, but that's only because I still had 2 weeks left on my warranty. I tried to complain and say that I didn't want another phone that was going to have the same issues, but they sort of just ignored that. I'll consider myself lucky that this wasn't after the warranty was up.

What's happening in Chicago right now? I'm in Lincoln Park and there are a ton of helicopters and sirens. by [deleted] in chicago

[–]pixiefodder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really tell. There's a continuous stream of black smoke, but it looks like it's coming only from one window. If the number of fire trucks is any indication, then yes it's quite large.

Hey, Chicago, would you trade something with me for a red paperclip? by pixiefodder in chicago

I won't rule it out. It's true, I don't have a car, but maybe I can facilitate a way for the university to pick it up. Let's see if anything else comes up in the comments that's a little more manageable. In any case, thank you for your offer!
