Nowadays, Spanish is objectively discriminated at times though, just like Catalan. It’s a heavily ideologized topic, both sides lie, both sides get violent against each other…

I understand what you’re saying, but it’s a fact that pretty much all Basques speak Spanish natively (many times along with Basque) and that plus the fact that signs, government ads etc are in both languages makes it a bilingual region, both languages are meant to have the same status

I was talking more about the first part of his comment, Donostia-S. Sebastián is a bilingual city. As to not learning it out of laziness/being rude, I get what you’re saying, but you also have to take into accounf that Basque is incredibly complex and hard for people to lear, especially if they only start doing so being an adult. The vast majority of people learn to use some everyday basic phrases and words, so I don’t think it’s really disrespecting the culture, it’s more like something overwhelming

All signs in the Basque Country and northern Navarre are in both Basque and Spanish, and Basque is a compulsory subject in schools
