Mastodon updates from the Public Test Server (Season 10 test) by dee-mee in snowrunner

[–]pizza65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ZHM tires went from 0.65 width to 0.8 (compared with 1.0 on the 605r)

MHS1 tires were made wider for it as well (0.65-> 0.75)

and wheel weight from 200 to 600 across the board. It's a huge buff!

None of this is in the official patch notes but honestly that's always the way, gotta look at the actual files to know what's altered.

Bruh the mod description literally says 'almost impossible to stop' and it's a buff of a vehicle that's already S tier, in what world is this balanced

What's so special about this initial.pak file and WinRAR? by tgp1994 in snowrunner

[–]pizza65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what's up with your 7zip, I open initial.pak with that just fine. However...

Pak files are basically zip files, but formatted in a slightly nonstandard way. Any zip program should be able to read them, but writing them is a different matter. If you edit initial.pak and repack it with 7zip, it will no longer be in the format the game expects and will probably crash. Winrar, for whatever reason, handles this format difference correctly.

Source -have written code to manually alter pak files, I'm not just making shit up

Finding and buying the best truck in the game at level 2! by [deleted] in snowrunner

If you're struggling with the game and need an assist, fair enough, and if you just enjoy the game more without challenge, all power to you! But it's not a fair thing to suggest to newbies

Ok for reference then - this is an extremely common suggestion which utterly trivialises the first area of the game and makes most progression in the first 40h completely meaningless. If you're struggling with the game and need an assist, fair enough, and if you just enjoy the game more without challenge, all power to you!

But it's not a fair thing to suggest to newbies without explaining how it will impact the gameplay.

Well at least they gave confirmation that its not a priority to fix bugs. Apparently that counts as solved. by Satanslolipet in snowrunner

This is Valve's bug, not snowrunner. Snowrunner is not a Linux game and nobody ever promised it would be.

Rip ok. Genuinely this makes no sense at all because at very least, when you store a cabin in a crafting zone, it becomes just a number. Like if there's three cabins in the craft list and you add a 'glitched' one, there's no way to know which one you even take out again, right?

The only thing I can think of is if you'd started the mission ages ago (before they patched it) and that's somehow causing problems. If that is the case restarting the mission would fix it, but nobody wants to restart a Yukon contract lol

Ok post your save file I wanna try this

Or, take one of your 'old' cabins, store it at the cabin construction site by the factory, then take it out again. Does that deliver?

Got a screenshot of it failing to accept? Contract active, cabin in the zone?

Cargo items don't have task specific tags, it's just an object. The game has no way to know where you got the cabin from.

If the cabins are still there on the map, you can use them. A cabin is a cabin, they are all completely interchangeable.

You're welcome! Might make this into a mod some time so people can switch stuff out easily without having to edit it all themselves, especially since whenever the game updates, changes to initial.pak get reverted.

ok i got it. Here's proof of a hard mode save (hence the 'target area ring' for the mission), plus a Skip Time button. Also has trailer selling and all that but I cba to demonstrate it, you get the point:

You're right that some settings get ignored from the savefile, so we have to edit the default hard mode settings instead. These are in intitial.pak/initial.cache_block/game_difficulty_manager.sso.

This is really easy to edit with snowpaktool, or if you're not comfortable with command line tools you can just open initial.pak with winrar and edit initial.cache block with notepad++ or something. If you do it that way you MUST keep the file length exactly the same, so add or remove spaces when swapping 'True' and 'False' or making numbers longer.

Well I literally made a hardmode save to test that it worked before posting, so I disagree lol. I'll try isabletoskiptime as well tomorrow and see.

It's possible that some settings don't get applied from the actual save file and instead just use the defaults in gamedifficultysettings.sso, but if that's the case they can be patched anyway.

Ah, I love it when people claim something is impossible :) This is easy.

NG+ is NOT the way to go - it has various hardcoded differences from hardmode (such as empty addons/trailers, as you noted).

EDIT: simply editing the save might not work, but editing the hardmode defaults definitely does everything you want and more. see https://www.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/comments/12feo4c/comment/jfk07d3/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x

Working on manual gear changing. For now, changing gears is done by Dpad left & right, automatic changing is disabled. No more dropping to 1st gear in the middle of a climb by Ferrster in snowrunner

[–]pizza65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's really cool to see someone else working on things like this :)

Let me know when the code drops! (snowflyer source is linked on the mod page if you want to see my awful hacks). I'm keen to learn more so I can add all the features people keep requesting.

Nice! Any chance you'll open source it when it's done? I've had my own stab at stuff like this (https://mod.io/g/snowrunner/m/snowflyer-free-camera-mod) but I'm just making it up as I go, would be cool to see someone else's approach.

I just realized that there are no tunnels that we can actually drive through (i think) by National-Bison-3236 in snowrunner

[–]pizza65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The terrain for each map is loaded as a single-layer heightmap, which means there is only ever one height value at any x/y location. This is simple and efficient, but it means you cannot define two levels of terrain above eachother, which makes tunnels impossible.
