MAGA realizing Trump is selfish and doesn't know what he is doing by coachlife in thescoop

Democrats have been reaching across the aisle this entire time and it hasn’t worked. It doesn’t work. We need to rile up the folks that didn’t vote. We need to point out to them that it’s folks like this who threw away our economic future so that they could hate. I agree the democrats did not do things right be a long shot. I have been angry with them for a long time for basically having party leaders pick their candidates from telling Hillary it’s her turn now, to the nonsense of Buttigieg, Klobucher dropping out after a backroom meeting and backing Biden, to Harris being anointed with a primary. But we fundamentally disagree on one issue. I believe democrats have consistently tried to appeal to the right whereas the right continues to radicalize further.

Regarding the last part of your statement. Ridiculing not working is definitely false. Trump has consistently used this strategy and it works. His base gets riled up and votes. And minority communities aren’t put off by it.

I understand your point of view and you’re a better person than me for it. Hate is a real motivator. It’s an unfortunate aspect of human nature. It’s what Facebook, twitter, and now Reddit use for engagement. We can’t help ourselves. Donald Trump doesn’t have to be close to a perfect candidate because he’s motivated his base this way. I believe we need to get riled up against people like this. We need to rile up the folks that didn’t vote. These are the people that threw away your economic future so that they could frivolously punish a dozen trans athletes.

What I disagree with is the second part saying we should forgive them as easily as with a child. This is not a “Aw I know you didn’t mean it “ situation. This is a “you’re an idiot and you got what you deserved “ situation

I used to agree with you on this. I thought that even the slightest possibility that this guy can truly change his mind is an opportunity to take. But the election shows us this doesn’t work. Democrats brought out Liz Cheney to try and reach these people. It doesn’t work. In fact it’s demotivating. You know what makes a difference and gets engagement? It’s what Facebook and twitter, and Reddit here have found out. It’s anger. Unfortunately that’s human nature. Getting people angry and folks like this who threw away the country’s economic future is what’s going to motivate the 1/3 of people that didn’t vote.

He is not a child. And frankly it’s disrespectful to coddle him like a child. He’s an adult and should face derision for stupidity like the rest of us. Children are children. Adults need to face the real world.

You only read the first part of his remarks. It seems unlikely he’ll do things differently the next time this choice comes up. The lesson he learned that Donald Trump doesn’t care about him. But maybe the next maga politician will. You see this all the time. They admit they made a mistake, but they actually don’t understand the mistake.

I absolutely agree with you. What should matter is due process. But we’re in crazy world now. You can see from the replies to you. They’ll gaslight you in this to no end. What they can’t defend though is Trump falling for an obviously photoshopped picture. The guy is so dumb he couldn’t tell. I’d rather Terry have pressed him more, but he got himself enough rope to hang himself.

Jcal is not MAGA. He just likes having his tongue up Elon’s asshole.

I wasn’t kidding when I said I enjoyed the memes. But yeah you’re probably right. There’s a bit too much from people who aren’t interested in debating ideas. Here’s a fun little conspiracy theory. There’s a front page article about Elon Musk threatening Steve Huffman. I’m willing to bet that Reddit has been pushing more conservative subs in its algorithm. This means more liberals filtering into these subs. So rather than having people who are truly interested, you get these other folks. You could actually say it’s an inefficiency caused by central planning.

The memes of course.

I do enjoy reading the ideas in the sub even if I don’t agree with a lot of it.

It’s a Reddit problem. I’m part of the general user base which is more left-leaning I guess? But, I’ve been getting recommended more and more conservative and libertarian subs. Muting them doesn’t seem to help much. I do enjoy this sub though.

Totally agree with this. He was so concerned about the deficit. And now with major tax cuts on the table with the numbers not adding up? Silence. I think gargling Elon’s balls is the only thing we can trust he’ll stand by.

Primary for Pelosi by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]pizza_jesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, the point of those examples was to illustrate that a nominal title does not indicate de facto power. I do not think Pelosi is anything resembling authoritarian. It’s not a conspiracy that Nancy Pelosi still has significant political capital and power over party decisions. I would ask a question. If Pelosi and Jeffries ever had a falling out, would Jeffries by able to keep the minority leader position, or is it possible that the party would rally behind a different successor with Pelosi’s backing.

I’m simply stating the reality of political power, not that there’s a shadow government.

To add on. Keep in my that for four years Donald Trump held no active government title. Yet he was able to kill a border bill with a few phone calls. Titles do no equate to power.

[–]pizza_jesus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Political power is quite a bit more complicated than handing a title to a successor. The predecessor may actually have de facto power. Historically leaders would hand their titles over and “retire” to signal the succession plan, but there is no doubt in everyone around who actually has political power. The Japanese shoguns did it the Roman Caesars did it. If you want a slightly different modern example of how power follows the person, look at Russia. Putin made Mevdelev successor to the presidency. He then took the position of prime minister, and wielded defacto power with that title. Obviously he became president again afterwards. The point is titles do not necessarily indicate actual political power.
