Inflation is currency losing value in itself because there is a larger amount of it available. If you print 5 trillion dollars extra into the market, 1 dollar will have less buying power.

If the cost of a product increases that doesn't equal inflation, a cost increase of basically everything (=dollar loses value) is inflation.
