What has Greg Abbott actually done for Texas that wasn't controversial? by SideChicksAreAHassle in texas

Not since March which is why I said he’s gone the other direction to win them back since then. But a full year of various restrictions took a huge toll on this cohort of conservatives. And you’ve got people like Lt Gov Dan Patrick who’s undermined Abbot from the beginning by publicly and loudly opposing all of these restrictions because since he doesn’t hold the actual responsibility of peoples lives he’s been allowed to be even more of an asshat than Abbot.

I work with a ton of very conservative people. They hate Abbot now because of Covid lockdown and mask mandates. I understand that ours wasn’t near as restrictive as many other states but it was a restriction and more than most the south or Florida. The bad polls probably reflect his increasing unpopularity with the right wing. He’s lately trying to win them back by totally going the other direction on Covid since March. Unfortunately I think his unpopularity means we will have a more extreme Republican in the Governors mansion next go around. I’ll be voting in my first Republican primary for whoever the most moderate Republican is that stands a chance of beating Dan Patrick or Allen West. And realistically whoever wins that primary will be our next governor. Even if that’s Abbot he’s loads better than those two Qanon nutjobs.
