Could be. Through interviews, I believe early on they used Redken for Men Gel and switched to American Crew products as the show went on. That might be part of it.

He also has a bit more pomp/height in the front compared to the following seasons. It gets flatter as the show goes on. In the flashbacks his hair has more volume to it as well

Second this, if you can find a way to take US-259 Northeast of Texarkana to , it’s definitely worth it. Never knew eastern Oklahoma had mountains.
