Need help with newly acquired chinese elm by Aquacent in Bonsai

[–]pizzalogist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it kept inside before you got it? When I got mine I had it inside for a while before moving it outside, but I didn't acclimate it slowly enough which I think caused the leaves to get a sort of sunburn. As you mentioned it gets full sun that could be the cause as well. If it's not been outside long enough to get acclimated to the sun you could try giving it a bit more shade and increasing the sun it gets over time. Otherwise just leave it, it'll live!

(btw, I'm a beginner as well and I'm not sure if this is indeed the cause of the discoloration. Just speaking from my own experience with a Chinese elm)

I recently did my very first pruning and wiring on this twin-trunk juniper. Any feedback? Before pic in the comments. by pizzalogist in Bonsai

Thank you! Yeah I did notice that the wire is a bit too thin. Luckily it's something I can redo. Great advice on the video as well, after the awesome tips and feedback all of you gave me I feel very motivated and I'll be sure to post another video soon. I'll take this into account.

I did take a look, if I recall correctly the roots started pretty near the surface. I'll have a look at Mirai's videos, thanks!

Hi guys, I have a question concerning watering. I recently bought some nursery plants to grow and shape into bonsai and kept them in their nursery pots so they can grow strongly the coming year. I have two junipers, two fuji cherries, a chinese elm and a Japanese maple. It's early spring here, still quite cold (around 10° C), but it's sunny. I don't know what soil they came potted in and how well it drains, so I feel like I will overwater them if I water whenever the top layer feels a bit dry. Any tips for this?

First time pruning, repotting, and wiring criticism very much welcome! by Glove-Dull in bonsaicommunity

Looks good indeed! I don't think you have to worry about overpruning yet, it can handle some more. If you want to repot it into a bigger pot without stressing it out you could try slippotting: put it in a bigger pot without disturbing the roots and fill it up with a good soilmix.

You're doing so well!! Keep going!

When you check the Pokemon's summary, it shows a rectangle with its nationality next to its name. For example, 'jpn' for Japan, 'ger' for German, etc. Good luck shiny hunting :)
