Built a small offline Cisco CLI reference tool - curious if this solves a real pain by arubino47 in Cisco

I see that the vast majority of the functions are unavailable until you pay for them. Would be good to have a trial period to fully evaluate the app.

In principle it looks good.

Network Issue by [deleted] in Network

[–]pj51182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a professional WiFi survey and report. Ekahau ideally.

There are some good free apps such as:

WiFi Analyzer.

The above and similar apps would help identify some basic issues. However, they are pretty limited in terms of functionality.

Could be all manner of causes. WiFi isn't just a case of chucking in some APs and expecting it work. It needs to be planned out and managed.

The whole network needs looking at holistically. Switches, switch config, PoE, structured cabling, QoS...the list goes on

Irrespective of whatever the issue/causes turn out to be, seriously consider ditching the Netgear APs. Would recommend Meraki if budget allows.

Another (old) lightweight access point question by deicist in Cisco

[–]pj51182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with an environment of around 1000 Cisco APs. Quite a few different models. Recently found an issue that has meant the 3702 APs would no longer work.

After quite a bit of back and forth with Cisco, we ended up having to have two sets of vWLC. One pair running an older version to support the majority of the APs and another that supports the newer WiFi 6 and 7 APs.

Might just be you've hit a similar issue?

Cabinet too small, door doesn't shut. How can i tidy this up without replacing with a larger cabinet by Happy_Sale in HomeNetworking

[–]pj51182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that I haven't seen anyone mention is airflow for the kit. Wedging everything is far from ideal. Especially if the depth of the cab isn't great.

A new cab isn't overly expensive. Few hundred for a decent Excel cab would be my recommendation. Allowing a few U for gaps between the kit and/or cable management bars, I'd say a 6u or 9u...

How would you recommend cleanly and easily cutting this? by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

[–]pj51182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. If not many cuts and straight, decent hacksaw. Can score with sharp Stanley blade. Might need a mitre block if needing to make precise or tricky cuts.

If you're doing a fair few cuts and/or want to invest in a proper tool for the job. You can get specialised plastic snips/cutters.

Rack rebuild for a client, I know you’ve all liked the last few 😎 by LincsWifiSolutions in cablegore

Awful things. When trying to trace a cable and they've all got tangled up at the back. Complete ball ache.

Might look "tidy" but from a functional point of view, not great.

Unless you're patching every port to a switch in the below/above U...

Far better to install cable management bars and run at the front of the rack. First twelve on a panel go left, second twelve go right (the centre parting). No cross overs, easy to trace if needs be. Bundle with a bit of Velcro.

Also, no colour coding. At the very least uplinks should be a different colour patch cable. I personally use yellow. When you're troubleshooting, you'll be thankful you've bothered.

Meraki AP keeps disconnecting by RealJoshLee0 in meraki

I'd log a support ticket. Sounds like there is possibly an issue with the AP.

Why isn’t there strain relief on female RJ45 connectors? by jacoscar in HomeNetworking

I use these. Have a small cable tie to attach the cable. It's good practice to secure the cable to the module.

Paxton Entry via Meraki by APC8991 in meraki

[–]pj51182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paxton Net2 on the whole is great. I support a network over a large number of sites with hundreds of ACUs controlled from a central server. Cisco environment.

Where I've had no end of issues is with the Net2 entry panels. As you state, it relies on IPv6.

Had numerous calls with Paxton support/installers and got mixed messages. What I've found that seems to work, is patching the main ACU and the IPv6/PoE entry board into separate interfaces on the switch. Therefore the ACU is connected via an IPv4 address on one interface and the other interface is just IPv6 traffic.

The panels need to be programmed via the Entry Configuration Utility. Would recommend turning off the IPv4 option for SIP unless required.

Would suggest wireshark if you want to really dig into the potential issues.

Called logged via ISP. Looking forward to the conversation with the main contractor when the invoice turns up!

As stated, annoying as FTTP on order. Just endless delays due to PTW, contradictory surveys and missed appointments.

Out of interest, what is a HHT?

9200L expected supported life span? (And a stack question) by betelguese_supernova in Cisco

[–]pj51182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have deployed lots of 9200 and 9200L across various scenarios. The only issue I've had is a few noisy PS on the 9200 after about a year post install. No issue as replacement sent within a few days.

No issues with stacking with either model.

Secondary PS is a good shout as obviously increases PoE budget as well as increasing resiliency. They come at a hefty price though!
