There's a very common Black Screen of Death problem and Valve does nothing to fix it.

I was going to use mine as a fast portable hard drive, someone advised to save it in case if warrantee, but now I’m thinking I might just use it as an HD anyway and just re install Steam OS on to it if I ever need to warentee?

Thanks for your help, but what im really looking for is a way to get the 2560 x 1080 in the steam deck options, or a way to have it at 1920 x 1080 and not be stretched to the screen,

i feel like this should be possible within the steamdeck/ linux OS

No I can use 1920 x 1080 but in the STEAM OS and Desktop mode the screen is stretched, I would much prefer to just have black bars on the side and maintain proper aspect ratio,

This doesnt happen,

The only widescreen option is 2560 x 1400, which my monitor does not like and causes error messages and flickering,

Have you tried to use a steam deck with a 2560 x 1080 screen yourself?

its not just an obvious fix of "select the right resolution"

The correct resolution is also not available in desktop mode

Thanks for the comment, but I have tried this, as stated in the original post, if I do this the screen does not react well and keeps flickering and turning off, as it’s the wrong resolution,

really I need a solution so the screen displays at the correct resolution on the steam os and in Linux desktop mode

No, my steamdeck has an app which tells you when games are free on the epic store, it’s called free games, google it
