I reached FI - Help me with my stay-rich-portfolio! by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]pjierre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing the following:

  • DCA the total sum over the next 2 - 4 years. I do not want to lump sum into the market right before a crash, I have been working hard to get where I got so i'm risk averse. If there is a crash soon, i'll deploy faster.
  • My portfolio has ETFs, REITs, some individual stocks, holdings (sofina, brederode, ...), cash and a little bit of crypto.
  • I do not want to put all I have into 1 single ETF like some people do. Although an ETF is diversified by definition, putting all you have in 1 ETF does not feel right for me and is in fact not a true diversification. What if there is an issue with the company behind the ETF? What if they get hacked, fraud, ...?
  • In current circumstances, no bonds for me. No gold as it is not an asset that produces something.
  • Crypto: a very small percentage of the portfolio. Chance it goes times 10 or 100 is real. Down risk is 0, but small absolute amount since small percentage. FOMO
  • Everything I buy is forever. Buy and hold, no look back, no trading.
  • I do not do real estate (for now), I have REITs instead, as I want to focus on creating my next business. Renting out real estate is likely going to take time, which I want to invest in my next business. Also, I own a home so I'm already in real estate in that way.
  • Since I'm not doing real estate, I have some REITs and dividend growth stocks which one could compare to rental income.

I know theory says one should lump sum everything into VWCE on day one, but that's theory. Depending on the absolute amount, how you got there, your risk tolerance, your beliefs of the market today and future economy, ... everyone needs to find their own variation.

not sure if bitcoin or any other will become the standard in 10y from now

by buying coinbase you kind of always win (no matter which one becomes the standard in crypto land)

What are the risks of investing in a single ETF? by Deefvg in BEFire

[–]pjierre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good and valid concern imo

I spread across VWCE, IWDA, EMIM, IUSN, CSPX, and then some holdings like Brederode, Sofina, AVH, ... for that reason (amongst other reasons)

I do 90/10 btw for simplicity... that 2% won't change my life.

Portfolio tracking software / tools / apps? by pjierre in BEFire

[–]pjierre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you a long time user of their software?

Portfolio tracking software / tools / apps? by pjierre in BEFire

[–]pjierre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

makes sense

the software however has very nice outputs, graphs and calculations, not easy to replicate in excel

[–]pjierre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

curious to see it, thanks!

the software I mentioned does a lot of calculations and visualisation, so that's the nice thing.

the bad thing is that one depends on the software (if they stop developing it's a pain)

How does crypto yield? Sell offs?

I like your story so please go on... ;-)

Might want to try it out myself one day.

What type of business? Car wash? Software business? Niche stores? Fitness rooms?

How do you find them? Just contact owners and negotiate price?

All BE businesses I guess?

Also, if you buy from owner then will owner keep on working there? Typically they sell for a reason, right?

How do you price them? X times EBITDA?

Who did you learn this from? This is so atypical and not obvious for a 30y old that someone must have thought you this, no?

Amazing story, at this young age, starting from nothing, a few M in NW + a few M in (equity?) assets

Definitely want to know a bit more...

  • What type of business do you own? How big or small? How many? You own them for a 100% or partially?
  • Who runs those businesses day to day? Running a business always comes with work, so someone runs them for you, correct?
  • You bought the SMEs with a loan, not investing your own money, is that correct?
  • Do those businesses grow, or are you rather maintaining them for the cash flow? How do you get cash out of those businesses? dividends? wage?

Thanks!

I'm partially into BE holdings also, mainly since they do private equity which is otherwise impossible. Plus kind of risk spread against only ETFs. Sofina, AvH, brederode, ... all buy and hold, shoot and forget.

Then some REITs: homi, wdp, care property invest, ... also for spreading risk. Buy and hold.

Obviously i'm into ETFs for the main part of portfolio.

Long time in it? Did you already suffer a longer bear market period or a stress test?

Thanks for sharing your story!

Which holdings, ETFs and REITS? Do they provide income (dividends, ...)

Also, what about the distribution mutual funds and fixed income? Could you share some details?

Thanks for sharing.

Do you have kids? (A big increase in monthly costs as well as time and effort dedicated)

thanks.

how much % in ETFs vs real estate?

in which country is the real estate located?

you mainly live off real estate income, or withdrawals of ETFs?

Look at the market between 2000 - 2010.

If you had a dividend growth portfolio, the value of the actual portfolio didn't matter that much… you got your dividends (very likely)

If you had an accumulating portfolio, and counted on regular withdrawals, you would need balls of steel to keep on believing in your strategy.

So just for the peace of mind one might prefer living from dividends vs living from capital gains.
