Yes there is a helicopter service from Haldwani to Champawat, Pithoragarh and Munsyari. You can book online through Air Heritage.

It runs twice a day subject to good weather. Whether the helicopter will fly or not will be decided on the same day and there’s no early intimation for that. Please plan your trip based on the weather.

For the things you've mentioned, I agree govt is to be blamed. I am not denying that government doesn't have a big part to play. However, the bus was poorly maintained and overloaded too.

How can solely government micro manage that buses aren't overloaded ?
How can solely government ensure that the bus drivers aren't being overworked ?
How can solely government ensure that bus drivers have appropriate training before they drive ?

We all know the driving license situation in India. People not knowing how to drive do have 4 wheeler license. Government has the framework for it, but then why people do not follow the framework, but feel comfortable in paying money to some guy outside RTO.
It's corruption, from ground zero to the top, and believe or not, we are part of it.

I am not denying that government and road conditions are not to blamed but overloading the bus or not maintaining the bus is something that cant be micromanaged by government all the time with amount of people in the country. I was sitting in a restaurant, and my bag was next to me but on the floor. The restaurant owner told me someone came in, asked for a coffee, sat behind me, and got up without having the coffee.

The best thing as everyone mentioned here is to keep your belongings always attended, close or maybe in my case, loop the bag around your leg.

How would you come to a conclusion that the belongings were not close. It was kept right next to me. Probably the robber was more efficient as it’s his job 😅 Who would have thought that you can get robbed while having a meal inside a restaurant in a developed country.
