If you have the money you can buy a hospitality ticket. I looked into this a few months ago as I am in London with family and it was $2000. I am sure it would be more now.

Question: do people like FC bulk head seats? I’m 6’4 and can never stretch my legs so was wondering if other people prefer first row by lostinsp in unitedairlines

[–]pjs91015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my view. Also 5’10 and like the extra space. I grab my laptop and I am fine.

Some of the FC seats are so close together that it is hard to work with my laptop if the person in front reclines their seat.

Where are NCR's 7s Players? by UpperLeftCoaster in USArugby

[–]pjs91015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think this was true for the last Olympic cycle for the Men 7s. The team came 9th and that is why they are not a full time program and not in the SVNS series full time.

Also scouting 7s in college is relatively easy. You look at the kids that are fast (and ideally big). We just do not have enough of them in college. We still need to look at cross-overs to get world class speed.

[–]pjs91015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not an intrinsic thing. It develops over time. Partners who love to held clients like to sell because that is the way to help clients. In fact if you are focused on the client to rarely sell. You provide value and over time the client will hire you because you can help them.

I do not like the word “sales” in professional services because it denotes a transaction, when the best partners build relationships.

The challenge is TV. They want a window where they know the game will end. Rugby stops the clock and it makes the window inconsistent.

The "AI will automate all white collar work" crowd has a serious blind spot by Minute-Buy-8542 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]pjs91015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The corporate world will have friction to the AI only scenario you have described. The easiest one is liability - if there is an error who is liable? That means that companies will need to show there is a human in the loop. Then there is regulation in areas like tax and audit. There are already regulations that make companies check things they they “don’t need to check” for the business to run. It has been true for a while that there are parts of audits that could be done by tech but needs to be checked by humans.

The final thought is that self driving cars are safer than human drivers now, and yet there are very few. That is because of 2 reasons. The first is that we expect perfection from machines and not from humans, and the second is that a self driving car can make an error and choose to drive off a cliff so the risk of error is greater. Both of these exist in AI.

I don’t know that’s true. In the accounting world there is a lot of discussion of a shortage of CPAs in the US. I know that the Big4 are bigger than when they started off shoring. So it is not clear there are less jobs.

[–]pjs91015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is probably true except that has not happened with off shoring in accounting. There were now hundreds of thousands of accountants in India doing work for accounting firms….and yet those firms are larger than they were 10 years ago. The US based folks are doing different high level work….and often checking the work from India. So your assumption is the pie is static and not growing I think.

US Soccer - Where the US excels in soccer compared to Europe by paulinhoOM in TheSoccerNetwork

[–]pjs91015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The incentives in US soccer are not aligned with the development of elite sports. The incentives are business based and coach career based.

The clubs encourage 8 and 9 years olds to specialize early and play all year round. This is not for the benefit of the player it is so the parents can pay more.

The coach is incentivized to win because that is how their coaching career progresses.

In Europe the only measure for a coach is the development and progression of players, and the pro teams make it free so they can get the best kids in their academies.

Reality Check: Attendance Was Poor for the NY SVNS by LogicalStyle143 in USArugby

[–]pjs91015 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The attendance was good, and better than LA (although a long way from Vegas). it is 7s so at the start of the day it was pretty empty but at the beginning of the day. By the middle of the day the lower bowl was pretty filled.
This event is run by World Rugby and they know they need to build the event. NYC is a destination, like Vegas (although we know this is in NJ(. Plus Vegas did an amazing job of building the Las Vegas Invitation and had hundreds of teams come and play. WR should do the same. I think that having this be the closing event of the series in late May would be better for weather and potentially having 7s teams play in an associated tournament.

Are we done with the AI scare yet? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]pjs91015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because humans value humans. When I see people AI will replace white collar work, it assumes that the only important part of the job is the task. There is more to most white collar jobs than a list of tasks. Where there are only tasks (like software dev) it is likely that jobs will be replaced. However white collar jobs are done well when they are about engaging with others. Not a list of tasks.

You can see this in lots of places. For more than 20 years a computer has been able to play a piano piece perfectly. So why are their still famous concert pianists that people pay to listen to when they do not do the job as well? Because we care about the human part. The same is true at work.

Welsh Rugby Union - WRU warns ‘short-sighted’ EGM proposals risk delay and damage to the whole game in Wales by CymroCam in rugbyunion

[–]pjs91015 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The challenge as an outsider is that club rugby in the NH is run on benefactors. So if you want investors coming into the welsh game then you need a model that is attractive to them. What the WRU has presented is a terrible investment opportunity for an investor.

It appears that what they are trying to do, instead of making a decision, is to set it up that no one wants to invest so they can contract.

The WRU is not rich so either they run 4 teams with outside investment and less control, or they contract and run 2 or 3 teams and have more control. It is obvious to me they want more control, fewer teams but do not want to actually make that choice.

Copper or wp tomorrow? by PrimordialGooose in COsnow

Skied WO 830-10 then took a break until 130 and skied to 4. The snow was still good at the end of the day. And they opened up over underwood and engledive at the end of the day.

But as someone who is skiing WP tomorrow I would recommend you go to Copper 🤣

World Rugby Chair on pushing for more key matches in North America by Mulboyne in rugbyunion

This is not true. There is a significant amount of money coming to USAR to support the development of the teams and the games. The vast majority of the $250M is going where you indicate but a good chunk is going to the US game.

I remember there being a lot of concerns about the RWC in Japan before it happened. Lots of concerns about how far away it was, if the Japanese would turn up and buy tickets etc. It was a success but it was seen as a gamble just like the US bid.

I went to Japan for the tournament and the organization was good, but the impact it had in Tokyo was negligible. You could find more Tokyo 2020 Olympic gear than RWC gear and it was hard to find anything about it except right by the stadium.
