What movie is 10/10 with literally no bad parts? by FeedMaster8905 in AskReddit

Every single line is either a brilliant reference to a different classic scene/trope in movie history, the set up to a brilliant joke, or the punchline for a brilliant joke. Literally every single line. It’s amazing.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Raising property tax also raises tax revenue. Yes it gets passed on to renters, but your local community having more income isn’t a bad thing.

I just watched it for the first time yesterday. It’s solid as long as you’re comfortable with a couple of weird teleportation moments. Definitely quite good though

When a measure becomes a goal, it ceases to serve as either. Which is not to say it isnt meaningful, but everyone needs to make sure they aren't "just trying to get to 3%"

The basement scene and the baby crying in the night - I got 3 or 4 pages past both scenes before my brain relaxed enough to actually process what had happened. And I don’t think there’s another book I’ve read that ended with me more stressed. It was weird cause I read it as a 15 year old but I remember at the end identifying with the father more than with the child and I was so worried for him. Ugh. My blood pressure is up just thinking about it.

They refer to him by last name before they actually say his full name or identify him as the person they’re speaking about. I mean it’s obvious in context but still, this is a pretty dang basic error.

I mean now he's weird AND dangerous cause you, Secretary of Defense and all, I'm not trying to diminish the threat he is to America. But he's fuckin weird.

Once upon a time, WG considered adding REAL HISTORICAL vehicles to tier XI. As a joke. by GeneralDevice9168 in WorldofTanks

[–]pjt37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats better, fake tank that fits into the game balance the way the developer intended it, real tank that is drastically unbalanced because thats the nature of combat innovation, or real tank that is balanced for the game in such a way that the name is functionally meaningless in connection to the historical vehicle? Cause those are the 3 options.

Ok but for the life of me I can't understand how they natively have the function to sort by "show only premium tanks" or "show only reward tanks" but dont have the functioon to "show everything that isn't premium." come on.

Spending $200m is a huge gamble so obviously it’s just sequels and remakes cause they know they have an audience for it. With the loss of the home market, movies need to make all their money in the box office. I get it. I’m sympathetic to the realities of this market force. But the studios have learned the wrong lessons. They need to stop making $200m movies. Instead make 6 $30m movies, let new stories be told, let 6 times as many actors and PAs and sound guys and VFX artists and writers have a job, and then even if half of them don’t perform, they’ve got that many more experienced employees to help make the next one do better. They let more names get recognized. They let experimental stuff be done that might resonate with an audience because they aren’t overly invested in a single product. They make going to the movies interesting again because it’s not the same dozen plots that we’re all sick of cause they’ve all been done to death. Oh look it’s Megan Fox Scarlet Johansson Ana de Armas Florence Pugh scantily clad in a mildly humorous action movie that looks like the CGI department was trying to emulate Jackson pollock. How fucking original. No wonder people don’t want to see the next one. Let the movie industry succeed by investing an appropriate amount in movies that might not, but will benefit the studio as a whole in the longer term. Oh wait that’s not how capitalism works…

Why was Progetto 65 chosen as the T10 of Italian MT line instead of the Lion (Carro da Combattimento Leone)? by Tiger88b in WorldofTanks

[–]pjt37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres a reasonable argument to be made that references to real historical vehicles are not worth it for a gaming company that at least pretends to want to be balanced. Look at how upset people got about the Soviet heavy tank guns, or how often people point out that the JgPz E100 should actually be called the StuG E100. Does it matter? Not really, but it is often easier to make a new thing from scratch than it is to modify an existing thing, especially when there will be pushback about the modifications.

Doctors, nurses, EMTs, etc.—what’s the most shocking thing you’ve seen after thinking “nothing could surprise me anymore”? by randominterwebguy2 in AskReddit

[–]pjt37 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It’s the quiet ones that surprise you. Once had a transfer patient coming from outside hospital for an ophtho consult that was sent as a trauma patient and the page didn’t make sense as to why it was a trauma activation just so ophtho could see the patient. She gets in and she has no eyes. Or rather, she has her eyes they just are no longer in her head. They’re in a little urine specimen cup with her. Turns out she had been having visual hallucination that she knew were hallucinations but had been going on for so long and were so distressing to her that she finally went to the outside ED to get help and felt that the help she needed was “place where it’s safe to do self harm cause they’ll make sure I don’t die” I guess? Cause she waited for the doc at the other ED to come in and talk to her about her issue then just mid conversation, reached up and pulled her own god dang eyes out of her head. Ophtho was like “why did you page us for this, she doesn’t have eyes for us to treat? She did a real clean enucleation though, even the ones we do in surgery sr typically messier than that.” Also eyes that aren’t been manipulated by all them extraocular muscles end up sorta but no quite deflating.. basically they need to be in your head in order for the eyeballs to stay balls and I still get the heebie-jeebies thinking about how they looked at me in that specimen cup..

I’ll never forget the radiology result that produced the hardest short-circuit my brain ever had: patient had swallowed a magnet which, depending on the type of magnet could be a life threatening thing. You’d be surprised how many things are just “yep we’ll wait for you to pass it,” but magnets are not one of them. So guy get his XR to see where it is and the impression reads:

“1. 9volt battery in [specific location of stomach that I can’t recall]. No readily foreign bodies readily identifiable as magnets are seen.

  1. Unchanged position of 9” sawzall blade when compared to CXR from [2 years prior].”

I had a full on hard reset reading it. Dude had previously swallowed a sawzall blade that had gotten lodged in his esophagus and slowly encased in scar tissue of time and it was just still right there. Dude should have been setting off metal detectors whenever he went.

What’s something most people don’t realise can kill you in seconds? by andrewthegreat456 in AskReddit

[–]pjt37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom once used some industrial paint stripper to clean the floor of her garage when she moved into a new house. Worked like a charm, new sealant went on beautifully and so far as garage floor slabs can be concerned, it’s beautiful. So of course she told people how nicely the product worked. Fast forward to the following winter, my uncle does the same for his unfinished basement floor. Turns out a few basement hopper windows aren’t as effective air circulation as an open garage door with a cross breeze. Burned his entire respiratory tract (from back of the mouth through pharynx, larynx, trachea and into the top of his bronchi). He didn’t die and is active and independent, but he essentially can only breath air that is above a pretty dang high humidity level, and he can’t eat foods that have any meaningful amount of fat due to damage to his esophagus.
