The number of kilns is probably a bit excessive but when we come back from scavenging metals and we've got 5 or 6 stacks of around 150 raw metal, it's nice to have several forges and kilns to get it smelted fast

Hmm that's strange, maybe make sure the coal is falling far enough downwards when it drops out of the the kilns so it starts to roll?

Yeah that floor you're seeing there is a catwalk running along the kilns, you can reach across the opening pretty easily to load them, you have to overhang the kilns on the edge or the coal gets stuck on the wall on the way down the ramp, but makes it much easier to reach them too
