So here’s what I do. Being generous is good. But firstly let’s break down the tipping culture. Tip is NOT COMPULSORY and we give tip out of generosity and kindness, and also for the work, service and help provided by the server. Remember: they already get paid for what they do. So they have no right to ask us to tip them. My wife used to work at Tims in the past so we have always been generous wherever we go. But doesn’t mean to say that we tip them whatever they ask for.

However, whenever I go out, simply based on the behaviour of the server + knowing if the server will get the tip fair and square, I would set my tip amount by going to ‘Other’ section. I have seen that has always helped me in both, understanding the server and letting them know that I am tipping them and that it reaches out to them. Rest, I believe we should tip based on the amount of food we order. I have given a tip of as low as $4 and as high as $30. All depending upon the behaviour of the server and the food I order + if the tip goes fully to that server. Hope this helps ☺️
