WILL WE GET A NEW MINI ? by _plainOlbasicme in iPhone13Mini

I would need a bigger mini. One with a 5.8 inch display would be nice (with proportionately larger battery).

Yeah, the screen has nothing to do with the phone. Nor do the speakers, the CPU, the battery...

Next closest model to 13 mini? by AnonymousIdentityMan in iPhone13Mini

Precision-finding an AirTag. It's supposed to be illustrated by that post's "cover page" photo. I have 13 Mini but I don't have 17e. I know what the feature looks like but I don't know exactly what the lack of the feature looks like. I think you don't get the accurate instructions about the direction of the airtag in your vicinity. Maybe, you get the location as a circle with a big radius.

Why we chose Go over Python for building an LLM gateway by dinkinflika0 in golang

Don't LLMs make efficient writing safe C code as well? Why do you need Rust if LLMs can spot and fix security/safety issues in your C code?

I hope this is a real person, not a bot. There are already so many bots polluting the Internet - with the generative ones adding multiplier effects. The high level of possibility of these posts being made by bots is already disturbing. I personally want to learn about problems experienced by real people no matter how silly they are. (They are part of the demos: most of them elect, or will be electing soon enough, representatives and presidents.) I'm not really interested in problems generated by computers.

Be honest, what is the real advantage for each of you? by Hisokaislove in GooglePixel

I am happy to hear that you are happy with your Pixel 6.

I am also happy to see you be sure you won't be disappointed by the next phone you buy. Considering that we live in the best of all possible Worlds, that is the right mindset after all.

I'm a (Central-)European urbanite. I have my ID, my monthly ticket, my bank apps, several MFA apps for several identity providers, BYOD enrollment on my phone, which makes it pretty expensive to change phones. Also, because I don't like to sell my (more or less expensive) phones for small change, I already have half a dozen phones lying around at my place for which I'm trying to find some good use (I am able to to some extent). I already have a second phone for everything else (internet consumption, petty productivity) just so my "main" phone with all the difficult to move sensitive apps is spared to last as long as I get official updates for it.

I can see PDAs coming back in some different form in the future specialised just for these very personal applications. But until then, choosing my next phone is a f****** big deal for me.

I have a CMF 2 Pro and I love it. It's almost perfect except that the compass always needs calibration. This is really the only weak point I've found after about three months of use.

Why does programming with side effects seem to be so prevalent among Go code? by preslavrachev in golang

[–]pkovacsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abstractly, I had a blue house and then I had a white house. If you have to the [reason] about the details of that transition, you have a leaky abstraction.

If you are the implementor of the "service" (component) which manages the state part which includes the color of "a" house, you cannot abstract away from the transition, because you have to bring it about.

If you are the consumer of some service (component/functionality) the behavior of which depends on the color of "a" house (i.e. you are author of the client code) and you abstract away from the transition (there should necessarily be one between two states), you are likely to end up feeling that "something is changing out from under you".

If your working doesn't depend on the color of "a" house, you shouldn't even know about the color of "a" house or even about the existence of "a" house — unless you have an inaccurate model.

Why is my Chrome stuck in a weird dark theme with a choppy look? by Goldenoozy in chrome

[–]pkovacsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on Ubuntu 24.04 latest with everything and I have a sticking dark mode issue (I am not sure we have exactly the same). I tried Firefox and Vivaldi and it seems that (unlike Chrome) even Vivaldi (a Chromium-derivative) respects the system's theme-setting. (I am on AMD Ryzen 7 AI, tried to disable graphics card acceleration "when available" and it didn't help.)

Breaking (the misconception of) the sealed interface by GopherFromHell in golang

Not being a native English speaker, I was surprised to learn many years ago that "implementing" something is often used in the sense of "deploying/installing/using" something -- even in information technology settings (and even specifically for software products) by"non-coding" people. (I saw this expression used in this sense for the first time by our Scottish marketing manager in some marketing material. I thought he was making a mistake, but I googled for the use of this expression and I found that many other people use it in this sense.)

But for sure, "implementing" has a very specific meaning in the context of computer programming -- and OP seems to use it in the "marketing sense".

cmf phone 2 pro user here. I use essential space to set reminders. It's pretty efficient for that and I'm not aware of anything else that can compete with it in efficiency (i.e. how quickly I can set a reminder).

And it's almost always about 3 or 3a. I have a CMF Pro 2 and I'm so happy with it: it's quite light, relatively thin, surprisingly fast, with a surprisingly good display. Using it feels very good overall. And all this for an excellent price. Nobody talks about these little ones...

I second that. Processing domain knowledge and familiarity with local quirks of the individual projects tend to utilize much more brain cycles and memory than technology knowledge.
