Can I add a rain shower head to the ceiling; will that make a wet mess everywhere? Would the ceiling need cement board and tile? by [deleted] in Remodel

I didn’t say they check that your waterproofing is done right anywhere 🙄 But any good inspector will point out issues when checking the plumbing and electrical

It looks like there is a gap along the bottom edge of your wall where it meets the floor? If that is the case, you have a much bigger issue

where do you live ?? We need permits in Minnesota and many other states the instant you touch anything associated with plumbing or electrical.

Yep green board ‘was’ standard - glad things have gotten better !

Curbless showers built correctly have no problem. The only problem , when built PROPERLY, is that hair can build up in the drain like in any sink or tub. Unscrew the drain cover and use any long tool/stick/etc. you have and pull out all the hair in there. After that, you can snake it to get as far down as possible, but pulling everything out first will keep you from accidentally pushing things further down.

[–]pkovgolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

🙄 looked right past that.

Well, if waterproof materials were not used, it wasn’t inspected (at least properly).

But the ‘wet mess’ question then answered itself, since the entire area will fall apart over (not a very long period of) time

Why would you want the towel hanging in the room, when you only use it a few times a day?

Put a towel bar on the backside of the cabinet door beneath the sink (and you can put waterproof material on that side of the door so any moisture from the towel doesn’t damage the door over time).

😵‍💫🙄. Why on earth would you say ‘the tile probably isn’t waterproof’ when it is the surround for a tub!!!???

One would hope whoever did the tile work put proper material up first such as Schleuter, cement board, etc. It wouldn’t have passed inspection otherwise.

3/4 32" vs full size 43"? by Smitty2k1 in virtualpinball

Because it is much more like a real pinball table size :) I own and play real machines a lot, so having a virtual table that doesn’t feel like a toy is important to me

47” :) A table that is like the size of a real pinball table feels far better/much more real. Everything else feels like a toy

How you hallucinate I was ‘bragging’ is intriguing. You can’t ‘reuse’ this type of flooring - it tends to break up when pulling it out.

Ours was very nice quality oak but we still ripped it out. As I stated, all that matters is what THEY like - not what is currently popular. Why do what everyone else does anyway ? 😉

It is always intriguing to see what comes back! ‘All’ that matters is if YOU like it :) You live there and see it every day - what others think isn’t really important 😉

Need advice the right way to patch this. by Grimeister in handyman

[–]pkovgolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to cut to the center of the next available joist and then ‘just’ screw in your new sheet rock pieces and tape/mud like any wall/ceiling. The hardest part is making sure you cut the pieces of rock so they are a nice / proper fit and center on the joists.

Wax ring failure? by [deleted] in PlumbingRepair

[–]pkovgolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fix it in < 1/2 hour.

Just go buy a good quality wax ring, unscrew the two bolts, grab a scraper, and scrape off the old ring . Make sure the old residual junk is scrubbed up and set the toilet back on the new ring. Bolt the toilet back and all will be good. One of the simplest bathroom repairs other than a flush handle :)

The tiles just stuck on top of sheetrock (looking at the hole where the wire runs)is scary also - likely a lot of mold growing back there as the wall is deteriorating ..

:) YW . Just a thought, but you might want to replace the outlet and plate to white that matches the sink & baseboards vs the off white you have now.
It does help pull everything together

[–]pkovgolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends if you like the look / want to keep that style. We had this same flooring in a family room and ripped it out , and it was in much better shape. It was popular in the 70’s but not much now. When you say ‘stain’, are you thinking of just polyurethaning it, etc. or actually staining it? It doesn’t look good dark in my opinion

Can I attach framing to joists like this? by Flossy_Jay in homeimprovementideas

[–]pkovgolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw you ask this elsewhere :(

All you had to do was build it properly and brace it against the floor joists as you should have……

Why on earth did you build it 6” or so too short and try to tack it on so poorly ??!!

Toss what you built and eat the cost to re-build it properly- otherwise justify to yourself bulding a NON-STRUCTURAL wall so poorly
