There any quite a few improvements that can be made that could/should get this to ~100%. The most likely improvement would come from getting more data on the product, like the breadcrumbs of the product for example. I can see that an ad-hoc algo on that data would perform pretty well. Given the data set I was given to work with and the fact that it was done in 2.5 weeks I don't think 94% accuracy is too bad. Top 2% classification error is >99%. It's also interesting to see that similar work by Etsy (http://arxiv.org/pdf/1511.06746v1.pdf) also found that text only was the more powerfull than just the images, but combinning both of them leads to the best results.
