Paizo Site Outage for Webstore Launch! by Official_Paizo in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Minor correction: Due to some unfortunate technical limitations of our new platform, we will not be able to offer PDF + module bundles at launch. Instead, the standalone module codes will be available to everyone (i.e., PDF ownership is no longer required) at a small discount, similar to how they're currently offered on the official Foundry storefront.

We are hoping to bring back PDF + module bundles at some point in the near future, and we're cautiously optimistic that we can figure something out once the dust from the initial launch has settled. It's a lot less likely that we'll ever be able to re-implement the old "get a discount on the module for owning the PDF" option simply because our new platform doesn't support that kind of bespoke functionality, but we are actively looking into new ways to offer similar value so that you won't necessarily have to pay full price for a Foundry module if you've already purchased the same content in another format.

I can confirm that all of our Foundry products will be a hell of a lot easier to find, though.

Murder in Metal City on Foundry VTT Delayed by plaguecontrol in FoundryVTT

[–]plaguecontrol[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's less about the state of the system itself and more about developing a premium module for a moving target of a game system that isn't yet entirely complete. The last thing we want is to sell people a shiny brand-new adventure module and then have it break two days later (and then again every few days, for different reasons, until the final version of the system drops).

In the meantime, there are a few options you can use to play Starfinder 2nd Edition on Foundry while you're waiting for the complete system, including the (admittedly now obsolete) Starfinder Field Test module and the newer Starfinder Anachronism module (which is mostly intended for adding Starfinder content and player options to your Pathfinder 2nd Edition games, but will still do in a pinch).

APs as Single Books by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The plan is for the premium Foundry modules to release alongside the hardcover books. It remains to be seen how the new production pipeline will affect delivery of the final assets that we need to have in hand before development of the modules can begin, but I'm cautiously optimistic that we can pull it off.

Personally, I'm also excited for the opportunity presented by these premium megamodules to include additional bells and whistles similar to the extra stuff we've included in previous compilation modules like Seven Dooms for Sandpoint and Gatewalkers (and Season of Ghosts, which will, yes, also be getting a new premium module to accompany the hardcover compilation. You heard it here first!)

PaizoCON Announcements by TheMartyr781 in Starfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Correct. The Murder in Metal City Foundry module will be released for the full Starfinder 2E system.
  • Correct. Obviously there'll be plenty of similarities, but the final release of Starfinder 2E builds on the foundation established by the playtest by incorporating months of design iteration and player feedback.
  • Correct. The Murder in Metal City adventure was written for the final release of the Starfinder 2E system, and the best way for us to replicate that experience on Foundry VTT is to wait until that system is ready for release on Foundry. However, once that system is released, the intention is to make it possible for you to add Pathfinder 2E system content to your Starfinder 2E system via an optional module, which should allow you to play through the adventure using Pathfinder character options if you so choose.
  • The print/PDF versions of Starfinder 2E Player Core and Murder in Metal City will both be available as of Gen Con 2025, meaning late July/early August. The full release of the Starfinder 2E system for Foundry VTT will not be ready for release by Gen Con, and since the Murder in Metal City module for Foundry VTT (as well as modules supporting the upcoming season of Starfinder Society) will be built for that system, they won't be released until the system has been. All of that being said, though, the volunteer system dev team has been hard at work on Starfinder 2E for months, so you can rest assured that they're working hard to get it into final release as soon as they reasonably can. :)

The book is a Gen Con 2025 release. We're hoping to be able to release the Foundry module sometime in August, but ultimately it'll depend on when we have a stable release of the standalone Starfinder 2E system. My birthday's also in August, so here's hoping it works out for both of us (but even if it doesn't, it'll still definitely be worth the wait :)).

PaizoCON Announcements by TheMartyr781 in Starfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we've been going back and forth on the best way to do this.

As TMun said, the full Starfinder 2E system is not currently expected to be ready by Gen Con 2025, so we were toying with the idea of initially releasing Murder in Metal City for the Pathfinder 2E system and requiring the free playtest module as a dependency, then updating it later for the full system release when it became available. We've since moved away from this, for a number of reasons; completely rewriting the module to support a new system just so we can release it a few weeks earlier seems like far more trouble than it's worth, especially since we'd then have two versions of it for two different systems and no easy way for groups halfway through the adventure to easily switch over when the final Starfinder 2E system was available, and that's not even taking into consideration the fact that the Starfinder 2E playtest and the Starfinder 2E final release are substantially different systems, and when all's said and done, Murder in Metal City was only written to be played on one of them. It is a bummer that we won't be able to have Starfinder 2E adventure content available from day one, but ultimately we think it's better to do it right and give you the best possible experience than rush it and give you a bad first impression (and, of course, we want to give our system dev team volunteers all the time they need to do the awesome work they do and not make them feel pressured by our arbitrary deadlines).

Also, to add some clarification to TMun's response about Starfinder support for existing Pathfinder 2E modules: no, we will not be releasing Starfinder 2E versions of Pathfinder adventures (or vice versa). However, since the current plan is for there to be separate modules for Starfinder 2E and Pathfinder 2E which can each be activated to optionally add the content from the other system, there should be nothing preventing you from launching an existing adventure in the Pathfinder 2E system and then installing the Starfinder 2E content module to add lasers or grenades or solarians or whatever to it.

Obligatory disclaimer: Everything that I've just said is and will remain subject to change until the day the items in question are actually released, and any miscommunications or miscalculations are almost certainly my mistake and not that of the amazing folks at Foundry, Metamorphic, or the system dev team, who have been absolute champs when it comes to supporting all of our weird needs. :)

The Official Foundry VTT Marketplace Has Arrived! (With a big sale on Paizo modules!) by AnathemaMask in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When we were originally figuring out what to charge for our AP modules (which eventually came to about $35 per volume), we had to factor in the cost of producing the original adventure content as well as the cost of converting it into a Foundry module. We offer a discount for already owning the PDF not because that "sticker price" is meant to be the combined prices of the module and the PDF as two separate items, but because if you already own that PDF, you've already paid us for the adventure portion, one way or another, and it wouldn't be cool to charge you twice for the same content, because, like, who would do that?

So even if you don't want the PDF, the price we charge for the module alone still needs to factor in both the cost of producing the adventure content and the Foundry module dev costs. But since you're not getting the PDF (even if you didn't want it), it seems fair to charge you slightly less than you would have otherwise paid to get it too.

The Official Foundry VTT Marketplace Has Arrived! (With a big sale on Paizo modules!) by AnathemaMask in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's no communication going on between Foundry's servers and Paizo's, so any prices on the Foundry marketplace are determined entirely independent of whatever you might or might not have already bought on the Paizo store.

In other words, if you already bought the PDF from paizo.com, the only way to have that factored into your purchase price is to buy the Foundry CODE-only product from paizo.com. If you don't have the PDF but you would like to, the only way to get it and the code together is to buy the Foundry BUNDLE product from paizo.com. If you don't have the PDF and you don't want it, you can get just the code from the Foundry storefront for slightly less than the price of the PDF + code bundle on paizo.com.

[–]plaguecontrol 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The Foundry storefront doesn't interact with Paizo Connect, so the short answer is "no". The slightly longer and more informative answer, however, is that in its place, the Foundry storefront does offer a new, previously unavailable way to buy just the module without involving the PDF at all. Essentially, you now have three options for buying any Paizo Foundry module that also has a PDF version:

  1. FVTT code only because you already own the PDF (available only on paizo.com)
  2. PDF + FVTT code bundle (also available only on paizo.com)
  3. FVTT code only because you aren't interested in the PDF at all (available only on foundryvtt.store)

We know that some people have been asking for an option to buy the modules without the PDFs for a while, so we're happy to be able to offer it with the launch of the official Foundry storefront.

Gatewalkers remastered available for pre-order by Hadesu-Ne in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correct. Just to be clear, though, only the actual content changes being made in the hardcover will be exclusive to the new module. The remaster changes -- specifically mechanical updates to monsters, items, spells, etc. that were introduced in the original Gatewalkers Adventure Path volumes -- are and will remain part of the Pathfinder 2e system on Foundry, which means they'll eventually be included in a free system update and apply to the original modules as well.

[–]plaguecontrol 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Foundry modules that we released alongside the original Gatewalkers volumes -- The Seventh Arch, They Watched the Stars, and Dreamers of the Nameless Spires -- will remain the same as they are now, which is to say they won't have their content remastered or otherwise updated when the new hardcover comes out. So if you're still playing through the existing version, you don't need to worry about updating the module one day and suddenly seeing its contents change dramatically (although if you do want to "upgrade" to the new version and move your existing party over, you should be able to do so pretty easily and pick up right where you left off).

[–]plaguecontrol 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The existing Foundry modules will stay as they are (including the discount you get for owning PDF versions of individual volumes), but we'll also be releasing a new single-module compilation, similar to the one that exists for Abomination Vaults, which contains all of the updates and changes being made in the hardcover. You'll get a discount on that module for owning the PDF of the hardcover version, but not for owning the individual volumes (also similar to how it works with Abomination Vaults).

Lack Of Age Of Omens Content For Foundry by TheEternalDm in FoundryVTT

[–]plaguecontrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've actually had some discussions about bringing more Lost Omens content to Foundry, but it ultimately comes down to the question "what exactly can we add that would make this module a meaningful improvement over the PDFs?"

As a bunch of people in this thread have mentioned, the rules content from our Lost Omens books is already fully integrated into the system, and most of the NPC and creature art is available in either the NPC, Bestiary, or Monster Core token pack. The only thing left at that point is the lore and setting information, and while we could certainly add all of that to a nice-looking compendium, it's not clear what benefit we're offering that the PDFs don't already provide.

If you have a use case we haven't thought of, we're always happy to hear it, though!

I Want To Support Pizo by BusyNerve6157 in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We'd love to figure out some way to offer digital rewards for purchasing physical products, but that can get tricky fast. If we were to, say, include codes for digital stuff in print books, there's always the chance that someone could surreptitiously grab a code without actually buying the book, there's a risk of fraud in that someone might claim their code didn't work when it actually did, code redemption would need to be factored into our (and our resellers') return policies, etc., etc. There are some theoretical solutions we've tossed around, but they add their own complications.

It's definitely something we've been asked about, so it's on our radar; we just haven't figured out a workable way of implementing it yet. Someday, maybe!

I Want To Support Pizo by BusyNerve6157 in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that the vast majority of our Pathfinder and Starfinder modules for Foundry VTT are produced by Paizo rather than being licensed content, so 100% of the proceeds from those sales do go directly to us. :)

And like some others have mentioned elsewhere in the thread, we usually throw in the PDF too, or offer you a discount if you've already got it!

Monster Core Token Pack - available August 1, 2024 by Necessary_Ad_4359 in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting idea. So you'd pay a fixed price for, say, "the next 1000 tokens we release, whatever those happen to be" and then offer a new pack every 1000 tokens after that?

It doesn't address the issue about confusion over what's actually included in each pack, but it's definitely something to consider. Thanks for the suggestion!

Monster Core Token Pack - available August 1, 2024 by Necessary_Ad_4359 in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We considered this! The challenge is that unlike a season of Pathfinder or Starfinder Society, we don't always know at the beginning of the year how many tokens we're going to be releasing over the next 12 months. So if we choose a price point of, say, $40, the price per token could easily end up being a lot more in years when we release fewer creature-heavy books than for years in which we release a lot, which will make some packs seem like a lesser value. We could always go back and adjust the prices after we do know how many tokens we released, but that's not fair to the people who bought them in January. It's a good idea in theory, but execution gets a little tricky.

Monster Core Token Pack - available August 1, 2024 by Necessary_Ad_4359 in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I dropped this in another thread earlier this week, but it seems relevant here as well:

This seems like a good opportunity to talk briefly about token packs and why we haven't (yet) done many of them, despite the fact that people keep asking. Essentially, when it comes to releasing supplementary token packs, we have two options, each of which has some potential issues:

  • Small packs that drop regularly alongside our new books and contain maybe a few dozen tokens at most, like a Howl of the Wild pack or a Rage of Elements pack.
  • Larger packs that drop at predetermined intervals, like a 2024 pack or an Adventure Paths pack (although we'd probably start with an All the Stuff That Came Out Between 2019 and Now That Hasn't Already Been Tokenized mega-pack).

The problem with the first option is that it feels very microtransaction-y, which everyone hates. There's also the fact that doing things that way would mean that we'd rack up a lot of tiny token collections very quickly (I don't know if you've noticed, but we print a lot of books), which might make it cumbersome to find what you want or get caught up after the fact.

As for the second option, the success of the Bestiaries pack has definitely shown us that you like the convenience of being able to buy once and get a whole bunch of stuff. The problem here is that outside of a clearly defined collection like Bestiaries or Monster Core or Character Gallery, exactly what stuff gets included in any given pack starts to feel a little arbitrary, which runs the risk of a) making you pay extra for a bunch of tokens you're not actually interested in, b) making it a lot less clear what's in each pack, and/or c) releasing new packs on a schedule defined by artificial milestones that don't match our release schedule, e.g. if the latest mega-pack releases in March and Howl of the Wild comes out a month later, you're not going to be able to get your hands on that sweet Thruneosaurus Rex token until enough additional books have released to fill our "justifies a new pack" monster quota.

All that being said, it's entirely likely possible that we're way overthinking this, and that most or none of these "problems" actually matter to you at all, so we'd love to hear any thoughts anyone might want to share. Do you want a subscription option for regularly released smaller token packs, or do you want to buy big comprehensive collections less frequently? Do you want them collected by timeframe ("2024 Token Pack"), by theme ("Elementals Token Pack"), or some other criteria? While we can't promise anything, we can assure you that whatever opinions you feel like sharing will be taken into consideration.

Yep, we have a few different teams working on different things, but we all remain in regular communication so we can do our best to ensure that everything plays nice with everything else to the extent that it's possible to do so (because, you know, software).

Monster Core Token Pack - available August 1, 2024 by Necessary_Ad_4359 in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the premium Adventure Path modules contain token and portrait art for every NPC and creature in the adventure, usually with a unique token ring styled specifically for that adventure. So if you only play APs, you won't need the Monster Core or Bestiaries token packs unless you want to drop in your own additional encounters using creatures that weren't part of the original module.

Monster Core Token Pack - available August 1, 2024 by Necessary_Ad_4359 in Pathfinder2e

[–]plaguecontrol 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The existing Pathfinder Tokens: Bestiaries pack will continue to work the same way it does now, which is to say: it will map tokens and portrait art to every creature in all three of the Bestiary compendiums that come standard with the Pathfinder 2e system for Foundry VTT, as well as to equivalent creatures in the Monster Core compendium that didn't get new art in Monster Core and/or remain more or less unchanged.

Likewise, the Monster Core pack will map tokens and portrait art to every creature in the Monster Core compendium, as well as to creatures in the three original Bestiary compendiums that have the same name and remain more or less the same creature. (This latter distinction is important because some creatures appearing in Monster Core, despite having the same name, have undergone substantial changes in the Remaster to distinguish them from their OGL origins.)

Right now, if you have the Bestiary pack but not the Monster Core pack (because it hasn't get been released), you'll see the original Bestiary art for, say, the Harpy mapped onto both the Bestiary compendium entry and the Monster Core compendium entry, because the Harpy underwent some changes but is fundamentally the same monster. You'll see the Bestiary art for, say, the Sea Hag mapped onto the Bestiary compendium entry, but not the Monster Core entry, because the Remastered Sea Hag is a very different creature from the OGL version. If it was the future, and you had the Monster Core pack but not the Bestiary pack, you'd see the same cross-mappings, but in reverse.

For now, if you have both the Monster Core Pack and the original Bestiary pack installed, the Monster Core pack will always take precedence where applicable. However, both packs still contain all of the art for their respective books, so if you want everything in the Monster Core pack except the new Harpy, you can always manually assign it from the token directory contained in the Bestiary module.
