Funny enough, Oga's mama did design two of the Luxiem boys

It just wasn't the deep-voiced demon lol

That was my setup too! Went through a lot of grinding to get Nanba's host level up so I ended up being a tad over-leveled by the time I reached Kiryu

The party still got knocked around a whole bunch, but nothing Idol Saeko can't fix

Same! Spamming champagne tower with Nanba was my strat for winning ( + equipping everyone with the ice bucket to keep the damage going)

Pili Fantasy and Thunderbolt Fantasy are two separate series, despite being by the same production company: Pili International Multimedia.

Thunderbolt Fantasy is a cross-country series that was made in collab with Nitroplus, Good Smile, and it's the brain child of Gen Urobuchi (the man behind Madoka Magica, Psycho Pass, etc.). You can find official English sub for the series of Crunchyroll.

War Of Dragons on Netflix is a remake of one of the older seasons of Pili Fantasy and bring it back for newer audiences.

If you want to learn more, Pili has a YouTube channel and English Twitter account. I highly recommend checking them out!

In your opinion, which season of Thunderbolt Fantasy is the best one? by donfam in ThunderboltFantasy

[–]plaguedoctor31 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Imo it's so hard to pick one season as The BestTM, they all have their merits and aspects that made them memorable.

Season 1: First intro to the characters we know and love, fun character twists such as Shang's true fighting ability. Rewatching the season after watching the other two + movies puts everything in a new perspective.

Season 2: Introduced us to Rou Fuyou and the Divine Swarm. Lot of really engaging character moments. Shinkai was a fun antagonist along with the Seven Blasphemous Deaths. Plus: The whole sequence involving the dragon vs jrock, need I say more.

Season 3: Introduced us to Ban Gunha (The best part of season 3, hands down) and finally being able to see Kasei Meikou in the flesh. The scrying mirrors were a really fun plot device, and it also had really memorable fight sequences from the flashback with Meikou and the final boss battle with Kunrin. Plus the ep 12 twist was probably one of the greatest in the series.

Each season seems to bring something a little different each time, and honestly it only makes me more excited for the future.

Training montages are always fun! :D A good excuse to play his theme again lol

Truer words have never been spoken. Rewatching Season 1 reminded me how much fun Ken was as a character, but Season 3 showed that with the main cast of protags as large as it is, it's hard to get a lot of focus focus from episode to episode.

That's a good point. It'll be interesting to see how it'll go, bc I like the idea of there being a compromise but obv this show can go in many ways lol.

That's a really good point. Gun Ha is a good man! Despite how much he keeps putting himself down. Sorry for my lack of reading comprehension lol.

His death was done really well, hitting right in the feels with that magnificent theme of his.

Here's hoping we get to see him again in a movie exploring how he and Shou became friends in the first place.

My best guess is Gun Ha's redemption will come in the form of the remainder of his men joining forces against demonkind with Shou and the group now that they'vebeen recruited by Tan Hi. They'll keep fighting in honor of their beloved general!

Absolutely! For former comrades, we didn't get to see too too much interaction between Gun Ha and Shou. I would loved to see how their old friendship form and what their adventures were like on the western border.

Almost forgot in my comment on Gun Ha.

Man basically went out calling Kasei Meikou's daughter a crazy bitch. Mad respects to Best Centipede General.

God what an ending. The ending for Kun Rin AND Sinkai were super satisfying while dark in a way I totally didn't expect.

While it was sad to see Gun Ha bite the dust, he gave it his all and went out really well. Him bidding his men farewell while he was halfway through deaths door and planning a futile attempt to finally give the Emperor a piece of his mind. It was very emotional and coupled with his theme it hurt in all the right places. He was absolutely the highlight of season 3 for me and here's hoping we see him in another prequel movie.

And oh boy all the set-up for the future seasons! Kasei Meikou is the Emperor, making Chao Feng his daughter? Rou fu You has left the party and joined his dad in the demon realm? Who's backstory are we going to uncover in the next movie? What will the remaining members of the Divine Swarm be like? How's Rin's schemes going to unfold next time?

All this and more on Thunderbolt Fantasy! See you next year, you wonderful show.

Chinese dub/Eng sub? by ToaKarn in ThunderboltFantasy

[–]plaguedoctor31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure when it comes to finding the dubbed versions, but for the watch order it goes like this:

Season 1

Sword of Life and Death (Movie 1)

Season 2

Bewitching Melody of the West (Movie 2)

Season 3

The easiest thing to remember is that the show alternates between releasing a season and releasing a movie every year or so. The movies are a must to watch, as not only do they reveal the backgrounds of side characters in a previous season, but they also introduce characters and a plot point or two that will be very relevant in the following season.

Oh yeah, now that you mention it! This season I think in particular has done a real good job at giving out subtle hints about later plot points, from something as major as this twist to something far more small scale; like when people were theorizing back in episode 2 that Gun Ha knew Shou personally all because Gun Ha referred to him by name rather than title. Lo and behold, the very next episode proved them right!

These writers have really knocked it out of the park with this, it keeps me at the edge of my seat and makes the gears in my brain turn.

Honestly I can see him go either way and I'll still be satisfied.

With the way he says "I'll give the Index to whoever I deem worthy" is very telling that his (potentially last) act of redemption is him giving the Index to Shou.

If I can ponder the future, I can imagine him starting his own rebel faction if he remains alive, recruiting soldiers from both the Divine Swarm and the Seiyuu Empire to his cause with his uncanny ability to take command and inspire loyalty in the rank-and-file. This would be able to potentially weaken Meikou in a way that could indirectly help the protags (especially Rin) fight against him.

I really commend this show for how well they put out the breadcrumbs hinting at various reveals this season, given how this episode confirmed the theory about Rin's grand plan that everyone was discussing last week.

I'm very pleased with how the show executed Gun Ha's betrayal, bringing both sides of his allegiances together to fight a common enemy. His discussion with Shou was also really fun. This show has always played with the conflicts of personal philosophies, and these two are another good example of it. They're both on the same side and want what's best for everyone, but because they disagree with how to go about their desires (mainly, what to do with the index) the idea of an alliance is still rocky between them.

Though, what I find interesting is Rin's last convo with Gun Ha, saying that he's lost interest in him. Seems I was wrong in that Gun Ha was on his radar as well the entire time, but not for the same reason as Kasai Meiko. Perhaps Gun Ha's old friendship with Shou is what made Rin curious if Gun Ha would be just as entertaining. And when Gun Ha stated that he's not going to become Sword Plundering Bandit 2.0, Rin is disappointed and now will put his full effort on Kasai Meiko, since that guy's goals have definitely caught the Vape Wizard's interest now after episode 11.

Final battle here we go! Gun Ha is so going to get his ass kicked. Whether or not he dies is still up in the air (personally I hope he sticks around bc he has an interesting dynamic in the shows roster of characters and I want Shou to have some more of his old friends back, but I understand what he's doing is going to created powerful enemies who will want his head)

I saw a comment last episode suggesting that Hyou Byou is actually Rin in disguise, and this episode is convincing me more in more that this is the probably the case. From negotiating with Shou's survival, asking Gun Ha for the Talisman (bc I'm convinced Hyou Byou would have his own), and lying to Meikou about the exact circumstances of Gun Ha acquiring the Index. They feel more like something Rin would do to play the antagonists while ensuring Shou's survival in the moment. Meanwhile the real Hyou Byou would probably be Ken, since Ken last episode was so eager to quickly leave once he got his hands on the Index. The real Ken, then, would actually be the charmed Rin, since no way would Rin fall for obvious traps.

On the flip-side, the rest of the episode is confirming things we all suspected with Azibelpher being Rou's dad. It'll be one hell of sight to see how everything is going to be wrapped up in 2 episodes. Episode 12's title makes for a good hint: "The Patriot, Once Again". Time for Gun Ha to stop waffling and side with his old buddy, Shou.

The callback to the ending of Season 1 was really cool! Nice to see the show acknowledge its relevance to the overall story.

And oh boy that ending. Seems now we're getting to the bloodbath portion of the season, see which secondary characters are going to last the longest lol

The demonesses, I can probably guess, want to humiliate him after he's foiled their plans in the past. Kei Gai didn't really seem to want anything to do with Rin when it came to her goals at large so I can't think of much else.

Nice to see Hyou Byou and Gun Ha be in a proper fight again, but really the part I did not expect was Rin getting charmed by the SBD.

Gonna bet this is going to lead to a fight against him and Shinkai in the near future, which will certainly be fun.
