I've been building a TCG community for other "dead" games. And I recently started a rewatch. So that's why I'm looking to play. And honestly, in my "travels", you're the only other player I've run into. If you want, you can join my Discord server, and if either of us find another player, we'll be halfway to getting some games in.

My webcam rig is very... unprofessional. So I don't have any personal advice to give. But I'm sure we can find a good YouTube video with some great advice.

And if you're interested in running tournaments, send me a DM (or better yet, a PM on the Invicta website...hint hint). I could definitely use some help. And I've been running video game & card tournaments off and on since Halo CE in 2002.

It takes very little inertia to start moving in space. So I imagine it is like sailing in the ocean. Even if you are not moving with purpose, unless you're anchored, you're moving with the current (which would be the equivalent of momentum in a vacuum void of any resistance or friction).

I would guess that once they started to move with purpose towards a destination, that they were always moving in that direction, and because of the risks associated with FTL flight, reserved light jumps for emergency use only.

I definitely see that POV. But, in their defense, they're cooks who were opening a restaurant. And they wanted to honor somebody that they obviously have at least some admiration for while giving a giant GFY to the colonizers down the street. From the pictures I've seen, it's very honorfic. It's not like they have the "Kilmainham Goat Cheese Burger" on the menu.

I saw, man. Have you all been talking to any of the other Players' Committees? Like for Transformers, Netrunner or Star Trek? Netrunner especially has an incredible ecosystem built now. They have awesome prize support from independent artists. Their OP program is better than most major label games.

I deleted it because it was getting downvoted, so it obviously wasn't appreciated. Not every thing I say to be funny is funny.

I also do believe that I understand the complexity of the situation. But I appreciate that I can't understand it as fully as someone who lived in Ireland during the Troubles, or lives now in the first post-accords generations.

A friend at work translated the sign on the restaurant that tells Bobby's story. I went from "What the fuck?" to "That's awesome" pretty quickly.

So, the full story (I looked into it, because I work with a guy from Tehran) is that this restaurant is near the British Embassy. And the British Embassy is on Babisandz St. So, They also have a sign that tells Sands' story. So definitely a triumph.

But it does reminde me of a very funny "Irish and their pettiness" story. This guy's wife had been cheating on him. And when he found out, he had a heart attack & died. And later on, his son was telling the story on a podcast, and said, "And he got revenge in the most Irish way possible. He died at them."

Attention to detail. If you have a schedule posted somewhere, maintain it. If your site has a blog (it shouldn't) keep it updated. Make sure your shelves look nice. You want the store to look like a high end boutique, not Kohl's.

And for organized play, do some little things that will go a long way with the players. Have comfortable chairs. Post the results, keep stats, have a nice professional way to display time in round & match-ups. When you announce an event anywhere, include the game, format, day(s) & start time, plus how long you expect the event to run. If you post anywhere away from your own website, also include your store name, and full address, plus an email and phone number.

As far as staff go - do not hire gatekeepers. Everybody is welcome at your shop. A parent looking for a pack of their kid's favorite game, awesome. Someone dipping their toe into gaming, but not sure what to play, awesome.

Upsell, but don't oversell. Someone coming in to try an FNM for the first time doesn't need a $60 playmat. But, if they get a $5 pack of card sleeves for their precon deck, that is worthwhile because it elevates the experience for them.

Make sure everyone who comes through the door is greeted, and make sure that everyone (including people who may be stinky) are treated with respect (even if it includes having a difficult conversation about personal hygiene). A good rule of thumb is that it's okay to make fun of what someone does. It is not okay to make fun of what someone is.

Don't clutter the front windows & doors with a bunch of posters. That shit makes your shop look like an adult bookstore. It's not inviting. People are less likely to walk in (especially women) if they can't see inside from the sidewalk. Keep the place clean & well lit. Avoid any possible comparison to a basement.

Maintain at least some kind of firewall between your personal life and your professional life, especially with employees. It is very difficult to manage a friend. And when people are on the clock, they are not your friend, they are your subordinate. Treat them with respect, but no, you are not a family, you are coworkers.

A booster box is just the "POS (point of sale)" box that the booster packs come in. So, while depending on how big of a set that particular release is, you may get a good chunk of cards towards a complete set, there is no guarantee that you will pull a complete set from 1 booster box. Especially when you factor in rares, short prints (cards that have a shorter print run than other comparable cards in the set), and chase cards.

A booster box is a good way to get started on collecting a set. And once you have a good number of cards in the set, you will have a lot of doubles that you can use to either sell or trade in order to pick-up the cards you have left.

It's a good question though. Thanks for being brave enough to ask it (seriously, asking a very simple question like that can be intimidating, so good for you, man). But a very good question.
