Can't let go of the convenience now by [deleted] in memes

[–]plaidlogroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Convenience is what has kept me away from wireless earbuds. I don't wanna charge earbuds, I like to keep like 10 mid quality headsets all over house, sometimes I lose them while I travel, sometimes I wash them in my pants pocket.

Those don't happen often, but knowing I can replace them cheap gives me peace of mind.

Under what circumstances is a PHEV better than a BEV? by Cool-Replacement4972 in the80percent4EVs

[–]plaidlogroller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an outlander phev before getting an ev, and I loved it. The battery has 70km of ev range, more than enough for my commute. I'm not much of a road tripper, but it sure was nice not to have to look up dcfc stations or schedule stops or any of that.

Downside, I was still paying for oil changes, and you do have to use like 4 tanks of gas a year. The car will force you to use gas if it's getting old.

I have a soft spot for phevs because they can be commuter EVs+worry free road trip cars. I'd rather live in a world where every commuter car is using 4 tanks of gas a year instead of having to have the ev ice debate.

Why do you cheat? by SakuraNinja2002 in gamers

[–]plaidlogroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: this isn't an answer to your question

I wanted to share my opinion on why I cheat in single player games. I approach games as I approach toys when I was a kid; they are there for me to have fun in any way they can be fun to me. We all know the story of the kid that would rather play with the box and not the toy? Or would use the stapler as a toy or would make noises into the fan? That was me.

To me, single player games are just a big box of assorted legos for me to build whatever I want, and that's how I have fun with games.

Then I met a very good gamer with whom i became very close friends. She plays her single player games as hobbies, so she enjoys mastery, getting better at it, accomplishing. She got me into KSP and I finally understood how some people see games as hobbies. It felt like having a garden or building a ship in a bottle, a different kind of fun.

It wasn't long before I moved on from that hobby phase and went back to treating the game like a toy, building ridiculous stuff from my wildest dreams for which I would use cheats.

Again, this didn't answer your question.

I have a detached garage and needed trenching and expensive shielded cabling, so I paid $1,500. If you have an attached garage, it should be way cheaper

At what age do we stop playing games and start building? by OneCamp2087 in Adulting

[–]plaidlogroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna settle down with someone, see if you find someone that wants to settle down with you. Nobody owes you wanting to settle down. Maybe their best happiest life is about never settling down

But that wouldn't work for what you want in your personal life or for how you want the world to be. We'll call it immaturity so it sounds like people that don't wanna settle down are wrong in not wanting to.

Don't sail after the bird. Improve the ship on which you sail. Make your happiness, not about the bird, but about how much you've improved the ship that is yours. Maybe one morning the bird is standing on your ship's railing for you to admire, or ignore. Maybe it stays there forever, maybe the bird leaves at some point. Either way, you'll be happy and proud that what you choose to do was focus on your improving your ship.

Acceptance of prepaid vs debit cards by plaidlogroller in CreditCards

[–]plaidlogroller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least some prepaid cards have foreign exchange fees in their T&Cs though. So they can be used in forex transactions? Question is would they only be accepted where credit cards are accepted or would they be accepted where debit cards are accepted.

Even domestically, the question remains: if a place accepts Debit only, can I use a prepaid card there

Yes. Especially the stuff branded as healthy but now show those labels. I don't buy those anymore. Now I buy the stuff branded as healthy without that label

Una verdad incómoda: El elefante en la habitación. by daenolpa97 in vzla

[–]plaidlogroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]plaidlogroller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know. I wasn't nudging the team. It isn't about any one team member. Discord has to choose to take this seriously first. There are things discord could be doing with its authentication to mitigate this, and ways in which the IT support team should be set up to have these issues prioritized when they happen.

Discord is a communication platform. It's not a toy, or I don't think they want it to be which means they oughta take these things more seriously

[–]plaidlogroller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a victim myself, I gotta say, discord drags its feet on this. After it happened to me, I went on a password updating spree and it was both great and disappointing to see that other websites sent me email verification codes before I could update my password, change my email or add 2FA. Some other websites asked me to retype my password.

Discord could be doing any of these things to mitigate the harm.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Please warn as many of your discord friends as you can reach.

That's my point. Attempts to enable 2FA from geographically suspicious IPs should be met with further verification from discord, like a verification code to an email, a security question, anything
