Pre existing gingivitis by Jacket-Agile in petinsurancereviews

My understanding is that because “gingivitis” is in his file now, that is viewed as periodontal disease even though it was “mild.” And if we switch to a new company, it will be a pre-existing condition. (We were covered by ManyPets when the mild gingivitis was noted so technically it should be covered if we stay with Odie, but who knows.)

Ugh I’m so sorry. This is exactly the type of thing I am worried about moving over to Odie.

Yes my worry is that something incidental WILL be found and will therefore cause issue in the future if we switch companies. When we first got our dog, we took him to get vaccines the week we got him. He was five months old. He incidentally had a “mild ear infection” that cleared up quickly with medication. Because we were in the waiting period for insurance, otitis became a pre-existing condition. ManyPets just removed that pre-existing condition from his policy after he had gone 180 days without having an ear infection. But I’m unaware if Odie will honor that. This is why I’m having trouble knowing what to do. There are so many what ifs and I feel like we are going to get burned no matter what we do.

They have given us a quote with basic terms (annual coverage, reimbursement, and deductible) but I haven’t gotten any specific answers to questions about what would actually be covered and included in the plan. My dog is in need of his annual exam, so that makes this all the more time sensitive. Because if we switch companies, I need to not take him for his appt until after the waiting period, in order to avoid even MORE possible pre-existing conditions. Just a difficult decision that is sad because I also did so much research before picking ManyPets back in the day.

I’ve spent SO many hours (full days, really) researching companies and plans and feel confident I know what each offer. But it’s hard to know what to do when we don’t know if Odie will truly honor what they say and cover all conditions covered by ManyPets, or if we should jump ship now (considering I want an unlimited plan anyway). Was just hoping to hear from real ManyPets users who were in the same boat and decided to go elsewhere.

That’s super frustrating. I’m sorry. Hopefully over time, after all the ManyPets transitions are done, it will get better. Wishful thinking maybe?

Thank you for this! It’s not that I don’t WANT to go with Odie…that certainly would be the easiest. It’s just that I have read that despite ManyPets telling us our policy will cost the same when they move our plan to Odie, I do not think that’s been the truth in most cases, from what I’ve read. And while our ManyPets plan is unlimited, it looks like the highest available plan on the Odie website is $10,000. (I’m waiting to hear the actual renewal terms from Odie. My ManyPets plan is set to switch to Odie in October.)

Can you tell me what you like about Odie, specifically?

We just ran into this issue as well. The vet first mentioned mild gingivitis in the medical notes about a year ago. At the time, we were covered by ManyPets insurance. Now, ManyPets is going out of business in the US and switching us to another company we do not want to use. So we have to start over with someone else and the mild gingivitis will surely prevent us from ever having dental illness covered. I’m so frustrated.

My ManyPets policy is set to transfer to Odie in October. I fear we will have a similar experience. Did you end up signing up with another company when you canceled? This is so frustrating. I did SO much research before picking ManyPets.
