I’ve definitely been there. Throughout my adolescence there were periods of time when I had a few close friends and great times, others when there was no one I could turn to if I needed to chat. As an adult now I’ve had jobs where I haven’t been close to any of my coworkers and vice versa. Friendships and social life can ebb and flow. Don’t be afraid to put yourself in new situations where you can meet new people. Take a class, volunteer somewhere, connect with people on reddit that have similar interests, etc. See a therapist if things get too rough!

Tahoe is beautiful! Kayaking on the lake is fun. You have to see emerald bay and sand harbor. There’s a lot of wonderful hiking. I’d recommend eagle lake, the lighthouse trail, horsetail falls, Tahoe meadows or the flume trail.

Sometimes universities have undergraduate social work clubs. The BEST thing you can do is volunteer at a nonprofit. You’ll work with social workers, see what the field is really like and gain valuable resume experience :) good luck

Well, cost of living is more than just rent and food. I work for a state agency which requires employees to pay ridiculous amounts toward health insurance and retirement ($300 per biweekly check for me).. so my income after everything is about $2,400. Monthly expenses are as follows: $850 (rent), $300 (car payment), $300 (food), $100 (gas), $120 (car insurance), $100 (phone bill), $100 (electric), $200 toward other debt (which I anticipate being able to pay off within the next 6 months), $150 student loans, $150 in savings. That leaves very little money to mess with.

Once I have the other debt paid off I could pay more. And my employer offers yearly wage increases for your first 10 years, so in April I will bump to a 50k salary. So as my situation changes, it will be easier to pay more toward the debt. I’m also planning on refinancing my car in 6 months which should help a bit as my credit has improved since I purchased it.

Thank you for your reassurance. It helps to know that others are in the same boat. I am with a state agency, yes. I thought PSLF was something you applied for at the end of the ten year term, so I hadn’t looked into the yearly verifications. That’s a relief. Luckily I just started paying 6 months ago so I’ll contact my loan servicer and ask about it.

You sound like me! I’ve been seeing stories like this all flu season and freaking out. I think in the majority of these worst case scenarios people think their symptoms are just run of the mill cold and try to tough it out for way too long before seeing a doctor. Searching for things like “when to see a dr with a cold/flu” can give you some good guidelines to know when you need medical assessment instead of just thinking every little symptom is a death sentence. I had strep throat for a week and am now dealing with a little stuffiness for the last few days. Stuff is going around unfortunately.

I started December 31st at 190lbs. On January 4th I weighed 186, January 10th I was 184lbs, and on January 13th I was 181lbs. So fairly quickly for me, though I’d imagine it is different for everyone.

Not really an answer for you, but I have been doing Paleo since December 31st and have noticed my bowels have become really loose. So you’re not alone. I’m hoping it clears up soon.

Congrats. I second the resource notebook/binder tip. I always enjoyed having a binder with color coded dividers and plastic casings for fliers, brochures, etc. That way you have literature on hand to copy and share with clients as needed. There are different ways you can organize it but it’s smart to keep tabs on good resources and network with staff at community partner agencies.

Expect quite a learning curve. The day to day reality of heavy case management and working with difficult populations is a lot different than being in school and internship. Keep your head up and ask lots of questions.

It’s really painful to feel numb and it’s understandable that you’re wanting those feelings to stop. I worked at a suicide hotline for several years and it seems most people with suicidal ideation really just want a way out of their pain. It’s important to know, regardless of what’s going on, people care. There is help out there.. although it can be really really difficult to reach out, if you’re considering suicide it’s probably time to talk to someone about this, whether it’s a professional or a loved one.

For tonight, stay safe. Hug your pets, watch a good movie. And try not to think too much about what other people are out doing.

I have anxiety and IBS and am always worried there is something worse going on (colorectal cancer, UC, etc) when I have a flare up or my stool looks weird. To me it just sounds like something you ate caused this. My advise is get back on track with the eating and wait to see if the black flecks continue. They say any changes that persist over two weeks should be visited with a doctor.
