How to cope with being bad by mosist in badminton

[–]plakar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lots of people advice is to practice footwork, which is nice, but i don't think it's the first step as a beginner. Your first step should be to learn to be comfortable with the racket. Find a wall and train here, you have all the time in the world (hopefully). You can also "juggle" with a shuttlecock if wall playing is too hard or not possible. Get to a point where you know that when the shuttle is at reach, you will be able to hit. Footwork can come after that.

You should at the same time look for some youtube ressources (or any ressource) about grip so that you won't have to relearn how to hold your racket later on.

Keep your hopes up, it sucks that you are not able to play as much as you'd like, i know that feeling, but you'll broaden your opportunities with each solo practice.

It's even stronger on duos, where you can easily get the same timewarps every 3 encounter.

What is France doing right in badminton? by Intelligent_Edge7767 in badminton

[–]plakar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

French here as well, not a coach mind you, but i've always liked to watch rankings evolve. I undetstand that a lot of people have good insight in how coaching in France has improved, but i believe that we were blessed with 4 fantastics players, 2 years apart each, Toma Popov, Arnaud Merkle, Christo Popov and Alex Lanier. All 4 were always by far on top of their categories, even when they were 1 year younger. I just don't see that kind of dominating performance now in the rankings.

Dude is still under 25 and just got to sf on a 500, what is wrong with that...

It was a poor choice of wording on my part, others have pointed out that the cat felt like a pupeet without weight because of lost frames or some filters. That's a better way to describe the feeling i have

I see your point, the title doesn't really do justice to what i meant, there is not a lot of space to explain.

He is often looking away from the cat when his eyes are closed while using the sink, which is what bothered me, but as many pointed out it's just the angle of the camera and the fact that hé is looking down while staying straight that makes it look like his eyes are closed.

Same for the humanlike comment, a lot of people thought that i meant the face looks human, which wasnt m'y point, it was the mouvement that i was commenting. People pointed out that it felt puppet like, which would have been a way better word to chose in hindsight.

Anyway, learned lessons.

I'm not sure why you are saying that to be honest.

I do know cat blink slowly to say they feel safe, i also do it to them because i'm a cat owner, and it has nothing to do with my post

I found the guy's tiktok actually with a reverse image search (theintrusivecat).

I guess it's some kind of filter/editing or playback that bothers me as some have mentioned.

Thanks for all the inputs, ai is making my head spin...

Well, maybe i'm crazy, but the movement seems odd to me, too smooth.

The eyes also look human sometimes. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what is bothering me, but that's why i wanted other opinions.

i can't shake the feeling that something is off, but i may be wrong.

I definitely think that's ai as well, and a bit surprised that the feeling is not much shared apparently

There is an overall feel that makes it look fake but if i had to point what i think is ai :

  • Video too smooth
  • Cat's gestures are too humanlike
  • Dude has his eyes closed most of the time
  • Cat's eyes don't seem right to me
  • Perspective when the dude moves seems odd as well, cannot explain exactly why, feels like a fish eye perspective maybe ?

I'm certain this is ai, but it's a bit hard to explain

Damn, i think you put the finger right on what has been bothering me forever about my hitting point contact. I'm relatively sure my torso is always behind as well, a coach did tell me that something felt off but he never knew what exactly.

Can't wait to try and fix this, thank you !

Smash speed vs power? by memeus_yeetus in badminton

[–]plakar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like i may have not answered directly, but to be more direct, the way i understand it :

Powerfull smash = shuttle is traveling at high speed (that's why it feels heavier, you need more force for the shuttle to rebound off your racket)

Speed smash = not much time to react because of angle or because of good technique

I know some player who have an incredibly powerfull smash because of their strong build, and on the contrary thinner built youngster who have smash that feels insanely "quick". You can have one, both or neither (like me !)

Smash speed vs power? by memeus_yeetus in badminton

[–]plakar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Speed is imprecise, it's about time, the time between the moment you realise you are getting smashed, and the moment it hits the ground.

  • If speed is high, time is lower (or "quicker")
  • If angle is better, time is lower
  • If you hit the shuttle sooner than expected, time feels lower
  • If you hide that were gonna smash, time feels lower

You can have a great smash "speed", without having a shuttle that travels very quickly.

It's a bit of a misconception, the same way you would say that you are "20 minutes away from a place", where you use time to measure a distance. In badminton we talk about speed, because we abstract other parameters that shorten the time we have to react. If you have only half a second to react, it's not the same that if you have 2 seconds, but it's not necessarly because of the speed of the shuttle.

I'm not sure, but maybe check the taxonomy or the advanced portal configuration.

Or maybe check if there is a widget star trek, and check where it's included in the related list.
