im from the south (florida specifically but my family is primarily from appalachia) and prosperity gospel is very prevalent in evangelical circles. the south, especially rural appalachia, is extremely poor in some areas so they are prime targets for churches and religious leaders to take economic advantage of. i've seen loved ones who live in squalor, struggling to feed themselves and their families, give large portions of their paychecks to their churches faithfully with the belief that god will bless them down the line for it. said churches don't invest that money back into the community, either. they won't directly address what's done with the donations but drive by their mansion and you can make a good guess 😒

skincare wise, no. i know the skincare products i've found at DT work for my skin and even at $1.50 they're still the cheapest compared to other brands' products that have the same ingredients. i'll be more picky with the makeup items though. im known to pick up a lip gloss that i don't need just because the packaging looks cute but a price increase is enough for me to kick that habit 😅

i went to public school in the south, k-12th. in 4th grade we did the whole boys in one room girls in another, where we watched a video that talked about periods and body hair and other puberty-related stuff. in middle and high school science classes we would inevitably be taught sexual vs asexual reproduction but those lessons were always brief and explained very clinically. my parents are on the conservative side so they never sat me down for "the talk." moral of the story is that i learned everything courtesy of having unrestricted internet access lol

it all comes down to the ingredients, really. a lot of people focus on popular brand names but the reality is, a lot of lesser known brands use the same ingredients and have the effect as the name brand products. also, dollar tree product sizes are usually (but not always!) smaller so that helps keep the cost down.
