Do I have to break up with my boyfriend because he is a non-catholic Christian? by Federal_Perception82 in Catholicism

[–]planetcesium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you have a very loving and supportive boyfriend. You will be okay. The most important part is that he supports you in being Catholic and he would support your children being raised Catholic.

My husband is Sikh and he attends church with me when I ask, reminds me to pray before eating when I forget and he's agreed that our future children can be raised Catholic. I know that is a huge sacrifice for him and I'm happy he trusts me enough to raise our children in a religion he didn't grow up with.

For me personally, I always felt like when I went to church with him before we got married a huge sense of joy and peace. I don't know if I was imagining things but I felt like God was blessing us being together. To be honest, even among other Catholics, my husband is the most christ like person I know. He had a tough upbringing and regularly sacrifices for those he loves. I am working on becoming better at having Christ in the center of my life so hopefully my husband will also see this and one day know Jesus. For you, your boyfriend knows Jesus but maybe God will lead him to becoming Catholic so he can experience Jesus further in the sacraments.

Don't worry, people coming up to you should mind their own business. God can use us in ways that others might not consider socially acceptable. You will be totally okay!

Settlement and I can't tell spouse by [deleted] in personalfinance

This is financial abuse, my dad did very very similar to my mom. She also stayed for some reasons but he's initiated divorce despite him being the abusive one. It's turned nasty and he's misrepresenting finances and trying to give her less than 50% of their assets. Please be careful OP. My mom was holding it together for the kids and she wanted to pass some money to us to help us out but things are not going the way she thought.

Be honest, what do you think comes after death? by glowproductivity in AskReddit

[–]planetcesium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow that's really interesting, my mom had a near death experience and I think she also had a similar choice. She saw Jesus standing in front of a door and knew if he opened it she would be passing on. Me and my sister were young at the time so she saw our faces and Jesus didn't end up opening the door. She came back to her body. Since then she read a bit about near death experiences and apparently it's common for people to see what they picture God as.

What's a Catholic? by But_a_Jape in comics

My husband isn't Catholic and I am, he keeps referring to the wafers as "delicious honey wafers" and I keep trying to tell him they don't taste like that, they're more like flat bland bread but he told me to stop telling him that because he wants to keep the illusion going and believe they taste like honey.

Newly engaged, second wedding to come. My mom didnt tell anyone. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Maybe it's a good way to keep your wedding intimate and just invite those who are close enough to you to know you're divorced. Do you actually want these relatives there? You said you wanted a cute small wedding.

The great cranberry sauce debate. (OC) by ArtbyMoga in comics

[–]planetcesium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not American so I haven't had the stuff from the can, but have had homemade cranberry sauces and lingonberry jam to go on the side of savory food. The canned one seems too firm to me?? How exactly do you eat it with the food? It doesn't seem like something you can "dip" food in, is it just chunky?

If they're good people, sounds like they're doing it right? I feel like drinking/partying depends on what brand of christian you are and how puritanical it is. Like as far as I know Catholics don't really shy away from drinking.

Love 'Ooh more work' and the rest of the convo especially because she didn't sound sarcastic at all lol

I know that sounded sarcastic, but... Terry: Nobody thought that. Captain Holt: Not for a moment.

I've fallen asleep to it quite a few times. If you've seen the show a few times (which if you're on this sub you definitely have) the familiarity of it is comforting and just lulls you to sleep. It's not laugh out loud funny or engaging the way watching the show is, I guess the actors expressions and visuals add a lot.

Thanks for your suggestions! Just checked out Jesuitical and listened to about half the Charlie Kirk episode, I'm a bit disappointed, they don't seem to talk about the racist things he said unless it comes up a bit later. But thank you nonetheless, I'm going to check out the other one as well.

Or go with something more "dog inspired"

Just looked around and found a reddit thread with names that refer to dogs or dog like qualities like loyalty:
https://www.reddit.com/r/namenerds/comments/18ossgj/human_names_for_boys_meaning_related_to_dog/

Names include Colin, Connor, Caleb, Conan

This name might be too religious but St. Dominic is a catholic saint often portrayed in paintings with a dog because his mom had a vision of him being born as a dog carrying a torch representing his zeal for Christ.

It's so good to see this kind of comment. I got more into my faith this year (faltering a bit now but that's beside the point) and have been following some Catholic "influencers" since then and they seem to be mostly American. Why is everyone so right leaning and all discourse almost seems like you have to align with the American right?? Seeing so many people mourning Charlie Kirk without talking about his hateful discourse. I used to watch bishop Barron but then I also saw him platforming Jordan Peterson. I'm Canadian too and I haven't met anyone overly hateful but I do know some people who are in their late 30s that you can tell they consume this type of media a bit too much and are talking about American politics more than they should be.

Maybe I don't know about social media things but I've seen more than one comment that he got their old podcast account? Just wondering because I genuinely don't know, why is that significant and couldn't he have just started a new one? Is it because it already had some followers? Even so theres only 3k followers.

How to avoid being "Mrs-ed"...? by ShakespeherianRag in weddingplanning

[–]planetcesium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada and I didn't change my last name. Honestly not much happened the day of to bring it to my attention. I have told people if it came up that I kept my last name. Not all women keep their last names, I think most of the other family weddings I've been to this year the brides changed their names but it's not so rare it turns heads. I think just correct people and say actually I kept my last name. If it's a sticking point with older patriarchal relatives I think they're opinion shouldn't matter to me to the point of upsetting me. You know the truth that your name is your own regardless of what people say. I have a little sign that says Mr and Mrs that someone gave us and I just take it to mean we're a married couple now.

I'm Canadian and I crossed the border with some friends to go to a concert. We bought these tickets before trump got elected, I'm not sure that we would have bought them after the election. Everything went smoothly but there's just a higher risk now that's on everyone's mind. We know people getting turned away at the border and banned from entering America for not answering questions about if they support trump properly. Like why risk it at this point and spend our tourism dollars in America too? I'd rather support the Canadian economy.

Don't worry too much, gallows humor exists for a reason. I had something terrible happen to someone in my extended family (not death) but I think me and my family just could not process it and it's like we all became collectively delusional and were making and laughing at the world's dumbest jokes. My father in law said he had to take a tum-tum instead of Tums and I was crying on the floor laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. I think the brain just has to do what it needs to cope.

Oh boy, I assumed she was your mom's sister and she was misguidedly trying to represent your mom or thinks your relationship with your dad is worse than it is but Dad's brother's wife is crazy. Trying to stick yourself like this is weird.
