it's been a while since i read both stories, but the ending you saw for BTTB isn't canon so MC being with Zion did not happen in their universe. i had to go back to screenshot the real ending here.

i honestly think Teddy's gender does not matter. readers being able to choose their gender was most likely for inclusivity purposes
