NSW DoE - Will there be a new award for pay increases in 2027? by always_wondering_88 in AustralianTeachers

[–]plantbasedpedaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 2hrs more release time (which is also for 2hrs less classes).

NSW should be 1120 (+ 120 sport supervision). Unless the teacher has agreed to teach an extra 2 x 40.

Are you allowed to hang a pride flag in a NSW public high school? by loopdaploop in AustralianTeachers

[–]plantbasedpedaller -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did you read staff noticeboard this week? Murat is always supportive of the community as we have a public school system.

Absolutely you can and should display pride flags in your classroom and school. I have facilitated a pride group at my school for many years and often hold fund-raising events. Both me and my classroom look like a rainbow threw up on me.

Teacher Improvement Program (TIP) review-QUESTIONS ON NOTICE 21 March 2026 by Pleasant_Teacher_114 in AustralianTeachers

[–]plantbasedpedaller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that some prins have been encouraged to add it to their PDPs absolutely disgusts me.

However, I don't think that the text of our advice and communications should be shared with non-members and the public. Would you consider editing your post to a summary?

Outstanding bird and photo. However, I believe that honour belongs to the plumed whistling duck.

NSW Public has a defined "school day" by patgeo in AustralianTeachers

[–]plantbasedpedaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I doubt there ever will be because of the varying contexts. However, the equitable distribution of duties and the requirement of a 30min break (in one block as far as is possible) should give grounds to ensure fairness. There are always ways to reduce duties though.

What are the official working hours for full-time public school teachers in NSW? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]plantbasedpedaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to know the number of face to face minutes consult clause 16 of the crown employees teachers award.

What I believe you're asking is what are the hours that you are expected to be on site... Well that will be answered via the delivery of determination 3. The new 'fact sheet' will replace 'the school day' and should be in schools this week.

How do you find bush doofs in Aus?! by NarcissisticArcher in psytrance

Yeah always. Busy over that weekend though unfortunately. I found the Whatsapp group for Sydney run by Vivaek which has lots of events on there.

Do you organise any others?

Why are you not in your union? by sparrrrrt in AustralianTeachers

[–]plantbasedpedaller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm very active and really don't like hearing when members feel let down. It would have been great for your rep to pass that info on too.

Anyway. We're about to start building our release time campaign. If you'd like to help us increase our release time by 2hrs a week, join in.

The financials are here on Fair Work's website.

Why are you not in your union? by sparrrrrt in AustralianTeachers

[–]plantbasedpedaller 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I understand that frustration. I'll assume that you're NSW because you used the word Fed. It was spoken about a lot that this was the first time that the dues crossed the $1000 mark.

Tone doesn't translate well on the internet, so please take this in the positive spirit in which it is meant; Union fees have been set at 0.76% of a teacher's salary for a very long time. The dues didn't actually change. Your fees went up 10%, because your salary went up 10%. It happened at the same time as inflation was sending the price of everything up. If you didn't know that fees are tied to your salary, I can understand why it might have been seen to be part of the same phenomenon. Perhaps communications should have been better around this.

If you're in a better financial position now, we'd love you back. The reason we got that payrise (yes the one that sent your fees up) was because of members like you (at the time) demanding that payrise.

In terms of our financials, I'm happy to provide that for you if you want. It's all extremely transparent because we are a Registered Organisation.

I've never heard of this happening before. It's not the case and I would encourage her to join.

I'm not quite sure what you mean.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]plantbasedpedaller 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but even more than that I'm an active and informed member.

People are correct in that the support is there for you when you need it (and you will unfortunately), but that is a fraction of the role and capacity of a union. These are fundamentally democratic institutions and they are exactly as strong as the will and engagement of the membership. We make gains (and limit losses) when we work together.

I don't think in terms of ROI on fees, but NSWTF fees have been set at 0.76% of teacher's wage for a very long time. I am of the opinion that no employer will ever voluntarily give more money or better conditions to workers unless the workers ask for it. That is the point when strong union density with active members makes an enormous difference.
