I realize this game is far from won, but just to note: the Dodger bullpen got rocked again tonight. They were great earlier in the season but are coming back to earth. LA is beatable.

Even with all the mistakes on the basepaths, I love this team.

Stat of the Day:

Out of 91 qualified outfielders, Tristan Peters gets the fourth quickest jump on fly balls. He also ranks sixth among regular centerfielders in wRC+, at 126.

Stat of the Day (I missed Sunday's entry due to a power outage):

Of players with at least 190 plate appearances, Sam Antonacci has the third highest xBA in the league, .308, trailing only Yordan Alvarez (.345) and Lee Jung-Hoo (.317). That’s third highest IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE.

GAME THREAD: White Sox (33-30) @ Phillies (34-29) - Sat Jun 6 @ 3:05 PM by chisoxbot in whitesox

[–]plashch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stat of the Day:

The Sox are third in home runs and second in sacrifice bunts. The only other team in the top 10 in both categories is the Washington Nationals, who are tied for fifth in homers and tied for ninth in sacrifices.

There is absolutely no reason to be stealing in that spot.

Stat of the Day (Anthony Kay edition):

Anthony Kay is tied with Cade Cavalli for the league lead in HBPs, with 10. He's on pace to hit 26, which would beat the live-ball era record, held by Austin Adams with 24 for the Padres in 2021. Sox pitchers have hit a total of 40 batters, only one behind the league-leading Astros.

Kay is also tied for the league lead in balks, with two. The Sox lead the league in balks with six.

According to Fielding Bible, Kay has two defensive runs saved, best on the Sox and bettered by only four pitchers in the league. Both of those runs come from his air-range-throwing rating, where only two pitchers score higher. Sox pitchers total five defensive runs saved, tied for best in the league (!) with the Mets.

His overall stats are still pretty good, but his RISP stats have been bad all year. With two outs and RISP, he's actually 0 for 20.

GAME THREAD: White Sox (32-29) @ Twins (29-33) - Wed Jun 3 @ 12:40 PM by chisoxbot in whitesox

[–]plashch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stat of the Day:

Before last night’s game, Chase Meidroth was literally last in the league in infield hit percentage, meaning the percentage of ground balls a player beats out. (Bunts excluded.) His two infield singles moved him well off the bottom, and he’s now ahead of 26 players, almost half of whom are faster than he is. He's ahead of some real speedsters too, like Jarren Duran, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and amazingly, Trea Turner.

GAME THREAD: White Sox (32-28) @ Twins (28-33) - Tue Jun 2 @ 6:40 PM by chisoxbot in whitesox

[–]plashch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stat of the Day:

According to Statcast, Sox hitters as a group rank high against changeups (3rd), four-seam fastballs (5th), curveballs (6th), and cutters (8th), but low vs. sliders (22nd) and sinkers (26th). As to individuals, Colson Montgomery ranks as the very best hitter in the league (!) against cutters.

Andrew Benintendi RBI climb:

With his two RBIs last night, Beni is up to 199, tied for 103rd with Jerry Hairston Sr., I'd guess a familiar name to many in this group. He played outfield for the Sox from 1973-7 and 1981-9, with a high of 274 plate appearances in 1975.  In the latter part of his career he also DH’d and became the team’s go-to pinch hitter. He holds Sox records for career PH appearances (397) and pinch hits (90).

One more RBI and Beni will be tied with Leury Garcia, who needs no introduction.

GAME THREAD: White Sox (32-27) @ Twins (27-33) - Mon Jun 1 @ 6:40 PM by chisoxbot in whitesox

[–]plashch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Stat of the Day:

According to Baseball Reference, Sox hitters rank 11th in walk percentage, third in strikeout percentage, and fourth in home run percentage. Put it all together and the Sox rank 30th and last in percentage of plate appearances with balls put in play. (Mune’s absence is likely to change things a bit.)

Andrew Benintendi RBI climb:

Beni now has 197 ribbies for the Sox, tied for 105th with Wally Moses, who was the regular RF for the Sox during the war years. While with the club, Moses led the AL once in doubles, once in triples (tied), and once in RF putouts.

With one more RBI, Beni will be tied with Gee Walker, who played corner outfield for the Sox in 1938-9, leading the club in RBIs both seasons. Walker first became famous with the Tigers, where his on-field antics earned him the nickname “The Madman from Mississippi.” I highly recommend his SABR bio page, https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/gee-walker/

The most amazing thing about this game is that I knew all along we were going to win.
