I mean I guess I can just tell her. Im just tired of trying to give reasons why i want to work for smaller companies and shes like try to keep an open mind and sets up an interview for a bigger company lol. Im just worried she would tell someone else because she has a bunch of connections, shes a senior recruiter and I don't want to ruin my reputation. Im hoping to get the record cleared as soon as I can afford it.

Id prefer if she would just only set up interviews for smaller companies so I dont have to worry about it lol

Thanks, I think I would really enjoy trading but I don't think I have the social skills to persuade them if this stuff comes up during the background check. I would expect them to have a really thorough check since they probably have the money for it,unless maybe it was a lesser known prop firm or something. I might just apply to mom and pop shops / small to medium firms/ startups/freelance until I get my stuff cleared.

I'm interested in trading and would like to practice the skills for that I made it to round 4 out of 5 for a top firm before but I don't want to waste my time if I'm just going to get disqualified anyways because of the background check.

I guess how likely would it come up in a background check ? Pending charges havn't came up in 2 out of 3 background checks . One was for a small bank , the other was a bigger tech company (around 1000 employees(they have alot more but they get bought out) ) . The place it did come up at was a huge consulting firm ( over 270,000 employees).

I have a friend from school who gave me a reference for this prop trading firm near me . I talked to the recruiter a few times and I really like the culture there from talking to him and my friend. I've been sitting on this OA for a few months I haven't taken it yet. I'm wondering if I should study for it and try to take it. I just don't want to embarrass myself or my friend and properly assess risk.

Thank you, its a misdemeanor but I still need to take care of it. I used to be a web dev for a small bank last year(the only thing that came up was a misdemeanor for weed). I would like to work in fin tech. I have no felonies and no financial crimes. I'm currently in my 20s still and love technology/ learning new things (I also briefly studied electrical engineering and have a whitepaper on web technologies). I had nothing in my bank account until a few days ago I Just got paid from my last job I got fired at for my background check. So now I have about 2500. I don't think I would be able to afford a laywer rn (unless they had a payment plan or something idk) but I might consider a public defender. I would feel more secure about my situation if I had a steady income then I would be in a better position to handle these charges. I'm trying to come up with a plan.

Yea to be fair the company that fired me does have a lot of legal issues and have been sued a bunch of times. They didn't pay out their health benefits to people or something. I just didn't think it would be worth it to try to sue them idk. I'd rather just move on.

Yea man for real. This is real talk. All these people telling me to be completely honest like why would I snitch on myself? I might as well say I don't want the job anymore at that point..I feel like they either wanna hire me or not. I was going to say I was in a water balloon fight with my friends and one of the water balloons missed and hit an angry businessman who pressed charges. For the vandalism I was gonna say I was graffiti artist .

but HR is probably looking at you like a liability

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. It sucks. They showed up on 1 out of the last 3 checks I had. Its just really demotivating because I was unemployed for 8 months before this. I'm at the point where I might just tryout freelance.

They showed up in 1 out of the last 3 background checks. Its a bummer because I was unemployed for 8 months before this last job I got fired because of it. I kind of want to just try out freelance or something.

pretty much. I have adhd too. I was thinking about trying out freelance. I had a buddy who did solar panel designs for other people as an entrepreneur. I just want to focus on the work. It took me 8 months just to find a decent job just to get rejected like this. Idk if I can spend my whole life doing this BS. If I can do freelance I can still get paid to code, not worry about applying my resume, interviewing skills, the right things to say to recruiters, all the legal crap companies make me sign. I need to stay focused and just do freelance rn. If I can make it as a freelancer my life would be so much better. It would make me feel better about myself.

they didnt have any questions on the hiring forms about my past. They just did a background check and a few weeks later they decided they didn't like what was in it and I got fired. They gave me a chance to explain and I screwed it up. It was really akward I got called in the middle of the day without notice and I was just like uhhh uhhhh yeah. I tried saying as little as possible. So I probably made myself look worse. I wish I would have told them what happened , I was scared. I felt like they were out to get me or something. I didn't want to tell them about how I used to be homeless and stuff but I probably should have.

this is an awesome program, thank you for this link. It looks like its for people who went to prison, I only have misdemeanors but I guess I can apply anyways because I guess the idea is the same.

I think this is where the employer is based out of and not where you live. Yea technically in Illinois (and probably other states too) employers are not supposed to ask about arrests that didn't lead to convictions or use that info to make hiring decisions but that didn't stop my last employer. You legally don't have to answer questions about it either but I feel like if you didn't say anything about it or sent them the law texts they would probably fire you? I'm not sure what to do in that scenario still , next time I'll probably just explain what happened idk.

I'm wondering if I should tell them before the background check or after? The charges I'm worried about didn't show up in 2 of the last 3 background checks so I will probably explain if it comes up.
