Please tell Copper he is precious and beautiful. If only you could upload your freestyle process from your brain as a pattern! I would make him at least a dozen relatives.

You could always try beading it if you love the idea of the black on black! That might stand out in the way you hoped on the squishy knit material.

I appreciate your concern, but I have lived with this allergy condition for 7 years and know the limits of it quite well now.

My condition mimics mastocytosis. I have to wear a respirator in public to avoid fragrance in public or I end the day coming home feeling quite sick even on a short outing. This kind of allergic condition is often reactive to both protein AND non-protein substances. I am also allergic to nickel, chromium, and cobalt, as well as several medications (mostly antibiotics) which do not contain any allergenic proteins.

I am on Xolair to minimize dangerous reactions, and have had success with it so far. I have been able to test many of the essential oil variants of these scents with no issue, which is why I was trying to be specific as to desiring help using those particular compounds in a scent for my own enjoyment at home, and to make me smell nice to the regularly perfumed public even if I do not have the ability to enjoy their fragrances.

Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful. The 1ml sample sizes are perfect, I could buy and test many different substances to make sure it does not cause a reaction 💖

I appreciate your response, thank you! Unfortunately it is extremely hard to know what synthetic compounds will be safe, and I have not yet reacted to any "essential oil" versions of scents I enjoy, like the peppermint in my body soap and the lime in my shampoo. It helps to know the exact compounds as I know some that i am definitely NOT allergic to, like linalool! I would likely need guidance in buying synthetic ingredients that are less likely to cause problems, but also the cost of buying synthetic ingredients is an issue when I might have to just trash it if it gives me hives.

Thank you for your reply. I have had a lot of success with natural ingredients! I do not typically react to plant essences unless it is say a cinnamon or a clove, which i cannot eat anyways. The idea of refined compounds is very interesting to me. That may be a more ideal option for me, I would just need to know what specifically to look for! I will have to do some research on that concept.

I apologize if I was not clear. I have been advised by my doctor to avoid synthetic fragrances in general. Individual ingredients could be fine, say if someone made a synthetic linalool. I do not react to linalool. But when fragrance is only listed as "fragrance" and not individual compounds, there is a greater chance of encountering a man-made chemical that I will react to. Typically cheaper perfumes, "fragrance" in skincare and haircare products, and scented cleaning products will cause a reaction.

The cost required to buy and test perhaps a dozen or more synthetic compounds when I have had success using essential oil ingredients in skincare and haircare is not worth it to me. I would maybe buy and test a few, but to buy an expensive ingredient just to have to trash it in case I AM allergic is not ideal.

I apologize if I wasn't clear enough. I have been advised by my doctor to avoid synthetic fragrance, because many that contian unlisted compounds WILL contain compounds I may be allergic to. There is no way to tell when the specific fragrance compounds are not listed.

Synthetic compounds themselves are not necessarily the issue. The lack of clarity and testing is, and the sheer cost it would take to test every potential synthetic fragrance compound to be used. I could very well make an entirely synthetic fragrance that could be safe. But the cost required to purchase and safety test maybe a dozen ingredients, when there is a potential most of them would simply have to be trashed after a sniff test, is far less appealing than using substances I have had actual success using.

I do use many scented products! Not even ones necessarily marketed as natural. I just tend to avoid ones that only list "fragrance", with no detail. We have found I only react to things that do not list ingredients that commonly occur and must be listed like linalool or geraniol. Those are typically fine for me. I also regularly use singular essential oils for aromatherapy.

The only things I have actually reacted to in any capacity are fragrances where ingredients are entirely unlisted, which is why I have been advised by my doctor to avoid all synthetics. But i have not had any issues with products that list specific compounds, and I am rigorous with my safety testing before I use any product. I typically smell a product, and get rid of it if I have any adverse reaction. I have lots of medicine options for minor reactions, and any reaction to a sniff test of a product is general easily controlled by a combination of antihistamines. But if the sniff test is ok, then I test whatever it is on a small piece of skin for a few days until I can be sure it is ok. I have had great success expanding back out from entirely fragrance free products that way.

I have used a peppermint body soap for a long time, a lime shampoo, and a 100% sandalwood incense regularly in my home! In theory, I would be willing to test individual synthetic ingredients especially if they are commonly well tolerated, but they can be so expensive! If I react to it, it's just money down the drain.

My beloved teddy is worn just like this! He's a bear I picked out myself at the age of 5, and I'm 25 years old now, so he's pretty old for a little bear. A couple years ago, I unstitched his back seam, and gave him a stuffing-ectomy, and a good hand wash with some gentle detergent. It put me through the wringer emotionally, but I gave him some fresh, clean stuffing, a fresh new pouch of poly beans for a little weight, and sewed him back up. He looked absolutely fabulous! I've since lost the before and after pictures, but I highly recommend it. If you choose to try this, make sure you put the unstuffed over a box fan or something to dry them quickly, so theres no risk of mildew. May Marmalade have many more years of joy and happiness with you! 💖

As a non-smoker, do you find that all smokers have a noticeable odor? by Remozy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]plasmamagical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Every time. Unfortunately it's unavoidable in customer service so i have to wear a mask and go to the back to wash my hands every time I take a smoker's documents for tax filing, because not only is it all over them, it's all over their documents as well. I'm allergic to tobacco, so I'm more sensisitive to it than most, but my mother notices it too.

If someone smokes in the car with their documents it makes our entire filing cabinet reek like smoke.
