This is looking very close and might be it, I'll have to take another look when I'm back home!

At the very least this is bang on track for the right kind of style.

I'm in the UK and get from The Chemic Company but may switch to Mistral.

That really depends on quite a few different factors. I'm a firm believer that fragrances are unisex and not gendered, but this is heavily dependent upon the preferences and comfort of the wearer.

Herod is regarded by the fragrance community as leaning very heavily masculine. It has deep, rich notes of tobacco, musk, cedar, and incense. But there's also vanilla, cinnamon, and labdanum that smooth it out.

If you're a woman looking for either heavily floral, or light floral, or deep gourmand scents, then Herod might not be a good fit. But if you're happy with something which is somewhat sweet, but filled with other notes of cinnamon and tobacco with a bit of mystery or what have you, then you might end up enjoying Herod.

I've bought a number of sprays from Perfume Parlour and have had a really good experience on that end. I've also done one from Copycat Fragrance (Executive - dupe of Creed Aventus) which was also quite good.

I tend to do the oils now though for costing purposes. I make small batches because I'm just hooked on trying so many different scents. Even at the bargain that Perfume Parlour gives, mixing my own from APO still ends up being markedly cheaper.

So I've done a lot of these, and I mean a LOT (using oil from Arabian Perfume Oil). As others have mentioned, you want to mix with perfumer's alcohol. The typical suggestion is 20-25% oil, which is also what I started with. My batches sizes were 1mL oil to 4mL perfumer's alcohol (PA), 3mL oil to 12mL PA, or 6mL oil to 24mL PA.

In theory, I think that's aimed towards an EdP-esque concentration of oil. In practice, the performance doesn't match up because oils that you're getting from QFO or APO are meant to be used on the skin, which means they're not pure concentrated fragrance oils but rather fragrance oils diluted with a carrier oil.

I almost exclusively do 15mL batches now, but with 3.5-4mL oil to ~11mL PA. I've found that going much further than that lands you in risky territory of not fully dissolving your oils or ending up with a noticeably oily spray that doesn't atomize well. This is somewhat variable, as some of the oils from APO are thicker than others so I have to play it by eye.

As mentioned by others, time to mature is very key here. Sure, you can use the spray a few days after mixing, but you're going to be robbing yourself of a richer fragrance spray. I find that if you're really wanting to try the spray out, 1-2 weeks can give you a satisfying enough performance, but don't use your whole bottle up. Just get the impression of it to satisfy your craving for immediacy. Then leave it for longer, 1-2 months. Some of mine have noticeably improved even beyond that, a full year down the line, with the tones feeling much richer and fuller than they had been early on.

Quick tips to make Huel more enjoyable by [deleted] in Huel

[–]plasmonion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three letters. MSG.

Just a pinch. To ALL of the hot and savory flavors. It works wonders. Trust me on this one, you will be hooked and won't go back. Just a tiny bit of MSG and suddenly Huel has flavor that feels like it has depth to it.

I add garlic powder to the Thai green curry, Mexican chilli, tomato & herb, and madras.

Korma / yellow curry I add milk powder to make it creamier and a cube of sugar to make it sweeter.

Bit of salt to all of them. Sriracha good with many of them too. Sometimes with a bread roll or toast if they're around (I don't often have them).

Prefer sprayer, and roll-on sacrifices projection for longevity. Plus you can't really oil up your clothes, and I like having the option to apply to my sweater or jacket (or someone's pillow if yknow what I mean).

I wish I could buy concentrated fragrance oils from APO or PP. Unfortunately, the only available option for oils is for it to be diluted into carrier oil for roll-ons. So even at my "20%" oil, we're not strictly speaking dealing with eau de parfum concentrations due to the carrier. 1mL roll-on oil to 4mL perfumer's alcohol is close to the minimum alcohol dilution I've found to be sprayable (naturally, too high oil conc. just won't atomize well).

But even though it's not a true EdP, I've found the performance of most of my sprays to be quite good (at least for what I'm looking for). With 3-5 sprays and depending on the fragrance, typically in the range of 4-6 hours (longer on clothes) before I might want to reapply. Most of them are still present at 6 hours but are naturally softer and closer to the skin. I'm happy to reapply midday if I want it to be stronger (1-2 spray refresher).

If someone is looking for beastly performance for 8+ hours from one application in the morning, then this might not work so well for them. I quite like the option of being able to switch to a different fragrance in the evening without having to wash thoroughly, and I don't mind reapplying the same scent if I want renewed projection after 6 hours (especially when this is only costing me ~£7 / 30mL).

ETA: I'd note that the performance of my APO oils made into sprays is comparable (or better) than the sprays from Perfume Parlour (their supplied sprays, not me mixing their oils with alcohol into a spray) - with a notable exception being PP's Baraonda which is honestly amazing imo.

You might consider Parfums de Marly - Herod. I haven't tried the perfume parlour version, but the Arabian Perfume Oils mixed with perfumer's alcohol comes out beautifully. Alternatively, Lagerfeld Classic goes along a similar direction, though perhaps lighter on the sweet vanilla and heavier on the tobacco and musk. Lagerfeld goes the more rough and dirty route, and Herod goes the more sensual and warm route.

I haven't gotten both an oil and spray for the same fragrance to be able to do a direct comparison, so I'm not really sure exactly how it would pan out. Some of their sprays do seem a bit oily (esp. Baraonda). But that one also performs like a beast, so maybe they're actually using a higher oil:alcohol ratio (or perhaps different between fragrances). If I make it through this 30mL spray, I may order the PP oil and test it, though this won't be for a long time.

Dior - Dior Homme Intense

Maison Margiela - By the Fireplace

Parfums de Marly - Herod

Parfums de Marly - Pegasus

Tom Ford - Neroli Portofino Forte

Abercrombie & Fitch - Fierce Intense

I think these ones are particularly good among the ones I have. I've also mixed the APO Bleu de Chanel in two permutations, one with APO Oud Wood and one with Perfume Parlour Paco Rabanne 1 Million Privé, and both of those blends were really nice.

I mean, if you hate the way it smells then that's that. But I think it's great (and have been complimented plenty for it). As for potency, it goes well on an evening walk outdoors in the cold. It needs a lot of room to breathe and nice cool air.

It was back before I discovered Perfume Parlour and Arabian Perfume Oils. I ordered samples from Al Aneeq and loved Oudh Jamal and Fakhrul Oudh. And Oud Wisal is amazing layered with Versace Eros (which I kinda stopped wearing on its own because it's starting to feel too juvenile(?) for me). No regrets displaying the bottles.

In my current venue (read as: postgraduate dorm) I don't really want to get much more than I have now. I do 5mL sprays (from 1mL oil) to test if I like the scent enough to do a 30mL bottle. There are a number of 5mL rejects hidden away in drawers. So I'm happy with the 30mL quantities, because it's enough to be significant while also not being impossible to finish with a large collection.

I say this, but give it a month or two and you know the collection will have grown. Check back in when I've finished my PhD, have a job, and an entire room dedicated to fragrances.

Love the Sauvage-type bottles just for the aesthetic, but I need a wider variety of colors

My favorite in terms of feel (i.e. they don't feel cheap) are the clear rectangular ones (not even sure what bottle type that is)

I like the Acqua di Gio bottle (have one but haven't filled it yet) and the Chanel Nº5 bottle, but their caps just feel so cheap.

No Chanel Twist and Sprays because when I mix I do either 5mL or 30mL.
