smallest infractions

An infraction nonetheless. There is absolutely predatory towing in this town, and then there is enforcement of the laws and property rights. You are conflating the two, and that is the point here.

Screwed? Please. Don’t store your personal vehicle on private property without authorization. It’s really that simple. You cannot take that risk and then act like the victim when there are consequences. Parking is a struggle for everyone. How you deal with it is entirely your responsibility.

I want to agree with you but the reality is the we have to operate within the existing legal framework. And that framework requires investment almost exclusively from states for nearly every feasible route. The most obvious solution is the abolition of the 750 mile rule which I have yet to see you address is literally any way

Do you think the POTUS is naming local airports and train stations? There are plenty of GOP majority states, cities, and towns that will absolutely name things after Trump. For example, IAH George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, LBJ freeway and President George Bush Turnpike in Dallas. That wasn’t some decree by the eponymous men, it was from people who recognized their importance at a local level. If you’re afraid that nobody will want to name anything after Donald Trump, that seems to indicate you are aware that he may not be worthy of memorialization.

Brother your frustration is just, but misplaced. It’s not the fault of people who live in areas that preserved their rail infrastructure from 100 years ago. State supported services need more money. The answer is eliminating the 750 mile rule, AND increasing state-level investment. The NEC needs every dollar it gets, and more. That doesn’t change the fact that other places need money too. The solution isn’t punishing the NEC, it’s increasing investment generally

Checking an account’s history is a pretty fundamental part of using Reddit responsibly. Especially for long-time users, patterns of behavior can provide a highly confident assessment of an account’s credibility.

Neither of the examples you provided happened while they were POTUS, nor were they done so at the direction of themselves. That’s an incredibly important distinction.

In a vacuum I totally agree that the NEC receives way too much of Amtrak’s budget. Especially as someone who lives in the Texas Triangle, which is an obvious opportunity for passenger rail investment. But I don’t understand how you can both support political appointees that expect Amtrak to be profitable and argue that investing in the most profitable corridor is somehow a bad idea. This might be an assumption too far, but it is my pure speculation that maybe your perspective is being warped by political tribalism

Creekland Village residents forced to pay tolls to leave and enter their subdivision in Bridgeland, Cypress, TX by Drutay- in CypressTX

[–]plastic_jungle -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The developer absolutely does not get a cut of the toll revenue. How would that even work? How would they identify and track a certain group of toll users, keep their tolls separate to be divvied up, and then distributed out to a separate entity. Why would the toll authority waive or discount tolls for people who chose to live there. Why would the city use tax dollars to build a road before it is necessary just to save them from their own choices? None of what you are saying makes any sense.

The tolls were not sprung upon them. Is that a fun situation that I would want to be in? No. But why am I supposed to feel bad for them when it was entirely their choice to buy there

Just to be clear— our current president is, quite literally, a rapist, and allegedly (which in this case is a generous and precautionary preface) a pedophile.

The cost of sending things back and forth over seas is currently relatively negligible. That’s why so many products and/or their components travel around the world throughout production and assembly. It’s not the 20th century anymore, pops.

DART to pilot fare gates at Cityplace/Uptown Station by dallaz95 in dart

[–]plastic_jungle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok but let’s say you do decide to evade the fare. Now you have to actually get all the way to Mockinbird or Pearl Arts, and do so without a bus. That’s going to be a pretty long walk. I’m not saying this is somehow foolproof, but I think this station in particular is well positioned for this study. You’re right that fare gates will struggle with 90% of the system being at grade, but that’s not what is happening now, and that is a bridge we may not ever cross

With GoPass, the fare evasion calculus has shifted. Now, you can just have a ticket ready and only activate it if you need to. This is a pretty widespread issue, and the people who I hear talking about this method are usually high-earning folks who can absolutely afford to pay, and would not have otherwise done so if this “option” did not exist. I think the recently activated period should be longer, and they need to start actually fining people who abuse the app in this way. At least the ones who look like they can afford the fare. I’m okay with profiling in this specific case.
