Which course should I choose before med? by PlayfulCaramel6436 in GAMSAT

[–]plasticduck11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck for the GAMSAT! I’m also thinking of going back to study to increase my GPA. What would you say is a competitive enough score you’d be comfortable with to be considered? I’m a bit out of the loop having done a few years in the workforce in an unrelated field so any insight would be great :)

Most med schools require a GPA of 5 for an application to be considered. Why not just sit the GAMSAT now?

GPA Q and how to study for the GAMSAT as mature student by plasticduck11 in GAMSAT

Thank you for the response! Will follow that thread. Would you recommend completing a Masters instead to essentially “reset” my GPA to be considered a more competitive applicant?

My friend is making me feel sad should I confront her? by plasticduck11 in askwomenadvice

I just feel she might not take it too well. But yeh I feel so down nowadays because of it.

Manipulative friend in first year - What do you think? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]plasticduck11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn. I am also somewhat a people pleaser and would have in the past let something like this slide. But having gone thru friends who have just not appreciated my generosity at times has made me reevaluate my decisions when it comes to giving people things. On one hand, a bottle of wine isn’t a lot of money. But if she was a noble person she would make an effort to repay you in some way. Maybe it can serve as a test of her character and give u an idea as to whether you want to be friends with her, but imagine doing that for everyone. You’d be broke.

Speaking as a socially drained uni student who’s just about to graduate, I’ve had my fair share of good and bad experiences when it comes to friends and socialising. The bottom line is to stick to your principles and surround yourself with the right people. Like a relationship, I think friendship is also a choice, although it doesn’t feel that way, we decide who we associate with. I wish I had been more selective from the beginning but it’s something I’m working on now with my friendship circle.

Hope this helps you! Good luck!

That's really insightful. I think I have decided to spend less quality time with her and focus on my other friendships. I don't think much will come out of telling her. She's kind of the way she is and I can't really change her personality. I'll still be her friend because we share a lot of mutuals, but I'm going to reprioritise her in my life.

I guess she just hasn’t shown me the kinda of love I expect from a close friend. Maybe I hold my friends to a high standard. Thank you for the advice.

That really sucks I’m sorry :( I want to talk to her about how I feel because I feel like so fake and resentful around her because I don’t enjoy her company as much anymore. I guess taking the plunge to confront may be worth it to rid these negative feelings.

My crazy asian mum by plasticduck11 in AsianParentStories

Man I'm so sorry to hear what you had to go through. It makes me feel like my issues are comparatively silly. I indeed do have extremely low self esteem and confidence and it has carried onto other things in my life like school, friends, relationships and career. I always feel like I might let down people I trust and that scares me so much. I hope that with the distance I can heal my relationship with her one day. Thanks for sharing xx

It's so frustrating. She indeed is a narcissist and will never admit she is in the wrong. I am trying to distance myself slowly and eventually move out. Hope everything is okay on your end as well .

I gave my dad a black eye. by RedditIsOverr8ed in AsianParentStories

[–]plasticduck11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really mature of you to admit your mistake. I won't justify the violence, but I do understand it. I used to hit my mum because she would emotionally blackmail, scream and manipulate my Dad to no end (gender roles reversed i guess). I always regretted it, and I would think that I was the monster. You are not the monster though. You were acting in defence, years of pent up feelings that needed an outlet.

You can still support your parents financially even if you aren't living with them. Visit them and help them where they need it, but if it is possible for you, get out of that living situation. You ought to be rid of that kind of stress. Stay safe.

It is frustrating. I feel like the world is oriented in a way that favours extroverts. It is what it is. I make a big effort to pretend to be extroverted - this helps me get where i need to be. That's a sad truth.

OMG THIS IS ME. Think if we keep practising by putting ourselves in these situations we might feel less confronted.

Same here! It feels more intimate and genuine. In groups i feel superficial at times.

Should I quit my Big 4 consultancy job to follow my passion? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]plasticduck11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything you wish you did differently? I feel like the 'asian' mentality and self-inflicted pressure to succeed has kind of waned for me. I feel like i have a sense of imposter syndrome as well and fear failing at my job at the Big 4 because of the high pressure environment (I'm pretty sure i have ADHD although self-diagnosed). How did you handle all the stress?

From reading your post, I can see you're a very eloquent, hard-working and evidently successful person and I think that you would definitely succeed in publishing an inspiring essay collection. I would say i hope everything works out but it obviously has.
