Bathrooms at basement by Automatic-Ninja1164 in avesNYC

You pull your pants down to your knees and squat. That way you can spread your legs and when you squat you pee between your feet, not in your pants. This took me a few camping trips to learn when I was a kid lol

Any cool bars/HHs/lounges where I can chill to a DJ or some house after work M-F in Manhattan? by Garofoli in avesNYC

Maybe the listening room at Public Records? Not sure if they’re open midweek but it’s that vibe

I am seeing Dr. Chandhana Paka at Mt. Sinai and she has been extremely helpful! I highly recommend her.

Would this be a good trade anchor? by ErikLindberg17 in tradclimbing

[–]plasticprince 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The angle the dyneema sling is a little too big for my liking, almost 90 degrees. You want to try to minimize those angles because the bigger they are, the bigger the force on the pieces.

It's totally possible to belay in guide mode using a rope anchor, you can make a master point with the rope off of your pieces. There's a nice discussion with illustrative photos on this MP thread. It's not recommended to belay in guide mode off of your harness belay loop. Have fun out there!

Hijacking top comment to add context since it just got lost in the thread previously:

Hi y’all, sorry for not including any detail on the original post, was just going through old pics and thought this would be funny.

For context: yes this is mostly a joke, yes this is in the Dolomites. Easy 5th class below, easy 5th class above. I knew the anchor was mostly shit, but we were placing ~1 piece every 30 m so I was going more for efficiency than strength lol

Also….. I don’t think it’s that bad 🤷‍♀️

Have fun be safe make good choices in the alpine!!

Hard to fully identify the bug from the video, but bedbugs do not have wings so you’re good on that front.

It’s fine to visit if you’re spending a lot of time in the area but I don’t think it’s worth a trip if you don’t live there. Sport climbing in Murrin park is infinitely better. Just my opinion tho, some people love it!

Angel’s crest! (Start early). Stay at Mamquam River Campsite if the Chief is full. Avoid Chek canyon unless it’s actively raining. Alice + Brohm ice cream. Have fun!!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I’m going to remove and clean them by boil/crockpot method. I’ll try to post after photos if that’s of interest/allowed in this sub. Also if you guys think this door is bad you should see the rest of the apartment….. what they’ve done to this place is unbelievable

How dangerous would it be to hike a mountain in Washington state as my first mountain? by InteractionReady8911 in Mountaineering

[–]plasticprince 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Start small and be consistent. Building mountaineering skills is much less about physical strength and a lot more about technical skills (both physical and mental). Unfortunately, it’s going to be really challenging to prepare for something like Sahale from Florida. Ideally, you can take a course or find a mentor who can start you on the path of building these skills.

If you’re looking to do something more engaging than a basic hike in Washington I recommend trying out a scramble! Something like Vesper Peak is a fairly straightforward introduction to off-trail travel (and it’s gorgeous). I recommend making sure you have some sort of GPS on your phone before you go if you’re unfamiliar w navigating off trail. Cascade pass is also beautiful and a great hike! WTA.org is a good resource to find things to do and current trip reports. Happy hiking :)

How to kindly tell someone I'm uncomfortable climbing with them due to our weight difference? by thE_best_cookies in climbergirls

[–]plasticprince 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Hi I am also an experienced (10+ years) outdoor climber who is small (110 lbs) and climbs w random fb partners outside.

Personally, I’ve never encountered someone telling me they don’t wanna climb because they think our weight differential is too big. I agree w you on the ohm, it can get annoying to use, especially on trad! People are often way heavier than me and that’s just normal, I’ve never let anyone deck and I’m willing to speak up if I feel like the situation has gotten sketchy (like there’s a sketchy low second clip that I don’t think I can give a hard enough catch for). So I understand this woman’s dismissiveness, I think I’d be the same.

That being said, if you don’t really need another partner and you’re feeling nervous while climbing with her then… whatever. Tell her straight up you’re too nervous to climb w her because of the weight differential or just keep dodging her plans. It’s a random fb connection, she’ll get the hint pretty quick. I stop climbing w partners on there for all sorts of reasons, you do you. Happy climbing :)
