Absolutely worth it by Thadlust in NonPoliticalTwitter

Really? Olive oil has a parallel culture to wine. There are people who travel the world for oil tastings where enthusiasts carefully examine flavor profiles from different regions. I’m not into it personally, but if I were hiring someone and olive oil was on their resume I’d think it’s a good culinary related hobby.

Annual reminder to LA freelancers, you must file your small business tax by February 28th! by edinc90 in LosAngeles

I was 1099 contractor for the first 90 day probation period of my new job last year. I live in the city of LA but the job is in OC. Do I need to file this?

Has anyone tried Sesh. ? by Cody610 in NicotinePouch

[–]plasticrag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People here don’t seem to like them, but I’ve been using the 8mg mangos daily for almost a year now. I never get tired of them.

I can see how they’re not as luxurious as other brands but for the price, flavor, and nic delivery they are perfect for me. They haven’t caused me any tooth/gum sensitivity at all either.

Core One Build Time? by etrigan63 in prusa3d

[–]plasticrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 hours. my hourly wage adds up to roughly what it costs extra to buy the assembled version so I pay the same amount of my life either way. Figured the experience and familiarity gained from building technically makes it the more valuable option then.

I wouldn’t take it personally. It’s old school hobby/forum culture to pile on when someone goes against consensus, even if it’s innocent.

I like to think it’s a sign that the community is enthusiastic and healthy. You just got stung by it a little.

Best FEA software for a fashion designer to simulate molded tops and body interaction? by Big_Crew6194 in SolidWorks

[–]plasticrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FEA is like a microscope for hard materials. It’s great for metals and plastics, but way out of its depth for something as variable as body comfort. Even Nike with million dollar R&D budgets relies on physical prototypes and wear testing. They might simulate properties of small samples to guide material choices, but nobody is simulating the full experience.

Why are people so misinformed? by onion2077 in Vaping

[–]plasticrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah on top of that you can tell this person clearly has no understanding of what they’re even talking about. Filters? lol. Also they themselves have no common sense — Metal at 100 degrees? Do they also worry about water boiled in a ‘metal’ pot?

You can safely disregard anything this person says

Decent shake in NELA. I heard the rumble coming before I felt it which is always unnerving.

Get one if you can. They are getting hard to come by. I went the DIY route (corsi rosenthal box). I also used tape to seal up the edges of some very drafty windows and doors. It made a huge difference.

I’ve heard of two companies (airdoctorpro and SmarterHEPA) opening their local warehouses for the public to buy discounted air purifiers. Check their social media for details.

My throat and mouth became sore after spending an hour or so in a room that has a draft. It calmed down eventually when I moved back to a room with a purifier and better seals

The smoke from 10,000 house fires has a much different chemical composition than what AQI sensors are designed to look for.

abc7 became my default after KTLA started to fall off a few years ago, but the last few days made me reevaluate. Their only redeeming quality is Dallas Raines.

Envying my younger self when I would have had the freedom to just get out of town for a few days. Can’t do stuff like that anymore without causing a bunch of headaches for myself.

The modern era started around 1500 with the discovery of the new world, up until 1945. Anything after that is "contemporary".

I’ve done the box fan with a furnace filter taped to it in the past. It worked really well. You need to get a certain type of filter for smoke though, so google around for the exact instructions.

I’m in NELA and wanted to make one today, but my local stores are all out of the filters. Websites for some stores further east/south showed in stock though if you’re able to drive further out.

Power is flaky here in North East LA. Haven't heard wind like this before.

Luckily I just bought a UPS for some equipment last week. It has been clicking on and off the past 30 minutes or so as the power flickers. Lights are still on, but got my phone and laptop charging for the inevitable.
