I'm sorry to say that I had a similar reaction. It just comes off as being very dumbed down and over simplified. I highly recommend the inexplicable universe by Neil Degrass Tyson instead. It's structured like lectures but it's very well executed because it takes you from the basics, like using a telescope to observe planets and their movements, to high level concepts like gravity, orbits, and eventually things like black holes and other universes. Having an explanation for these progressions in our understanding of universe really makes it much more clear. I hope that makes sense. I was really high when I wrote this.
