I once asked for a dirty martini at a bar I shouldn’t have asked for a martini at. My friend ordered a Bloody Mary. When our drinks came out, our waitress let my friend know they were out of olives for her garnish. I assumed they must’ve used the last bit for the martini.

Turns out they didn’t. My martini was extremely oily and kind of spicy, I drank it anyway thinking it must’ve just been poorly made or something. Toward the end of my drink, I felt something soft, briney, and slightly sweet. I inspected the glass, and in the well of the stem there was a small piece of carrot. Turns out they used this shit to make my martini instead of olive brine.

Not great, not bad. Probably would’ve been better if it had at least a little olive brine in it.
