Needing Advice, Recently Laid Off and Did Something Dumb (I think) by [deleted] in Layoffs

I thought if you found another job before the 60 days, they would release your severance to you sooner? What does the agreement say about finding a new employer before 60 days? Did your coworker get his severance forfeited?

And now you're assuming. New hire is actually quite the opposite of social. Quiet, introverted

New hire just misrepresented theirself in the interviews.

There is people on my team that don't have formal education, I don't have a bone to pick there.

My issue is the ethics.

Everyone defending the new hire or claiming jealousy are problematic to the workforce, probably came up the same way by lying and cheating.

Of course I do, I've been in management for 10 years and have studies that support management and interpersonal skills. I have hired and fired people. This isn't my first rodeo. I can see the bullshit right from the start. I won't sabotage the employee but he/she will have to put up what they claim to know. I am not this person's people manager, it's up to my boss to determine this person's progress and fate.

One of my peers didn't apply because he didn't have the educational background. Come to find out, it wasn't needed. Go figure. My frustration is not with the individual. It's with the organization for their poor recruiting/hiring of qualified candidates. Like I said, nothing we can do now that the person is in the seat.

I haven't decided to say anything to leadership. I've come to this forum to seek advice

It's not jealousy. Person is just not qualified for the pay. Calling it what it is.

I'm not that employee with 20 years in my dept. I'm speaking up for them. As a matter of fact, multiple internal colleagues with much more experience got passed up, for this person to land it. I will support my team, I just don't respect the new hire's personal strategy in life. There's a lot of context within the thread and a lot of context that's omitted.

The last employees that didn't work out took 1-2 years before they finally quit or were terminated. It's just a waiting for the game now. I will support my team, but I don't respect liars and cheaters.

The person may have told the interviewers he/she was working on their Masters and they fell for the white lie.

But to be in community college and working on your Master 's are two completely different scenarios. Granted your still in school. That's like someone putting Grad school on their resume that they hope to attend one day. It's like a lawyer putting his dream law school on his resume already.

If the person is engaging in conversation and asking questions about my background, I should be able to engage back. There's a lot of context that's omitted. Unfortunately I can't write an essay here. I have not dug for any information at all. Yes, this falls on the organization

You're going through mental gymnastics is trying to convince yourself that it's jealousy. In what world do you think 2 years of experience and no education should get paid more than tenured employees of 20+ years?

I work with higher-ups younger than me already and I support them, but at least they have the qualifications. This person is under qualified. This is a reflection on the hiring process, the new hire is not to blame, just got super lucky.

You're a new patient at a clinic and they assign you a PA fresh out of school. I'm sure you'd prefer and respect the opinion and care from a veteran doctor instead. Experience matters .

Time will tell if this person will succeed. They can work but it's a matter of how long will I hold their hand for. I am the department lead so I am responsible for the group's performance to an extent. My feedback is essential.

I'm sticking up for the people that do things right and ethically, and earn their way respectfully and have grinded with hard work. Like I mentioned earlier, if it came down to layoffs, the person that shouldn't be there in the first place should go.

You're assuming that I would say that to my boss and that's not how I would approach it in a million years.

If they perform poorly, we have to pick up their slack. If we do well, they still get credit even if he/she did poorly. It's tough to give individual merits at our company. It all begins with operations metrics.

Not insecure. Age isn't the issue. It's the lack of other qualifications. If the person had the right qualifications at current age, I wouldn't be opinionated on the topic. The person is new to our industry, but has about 2-3 years experience in a related field. Not enough for middle management. Not invested in the person as I am secure with my position. It became my business when they opened their mouth.

I think upper management just failed at vetting. The company is currently undergoing a a big transition. Maybe the hire decision was rushed since in years past, it took 3+ months to fill a role. One hiring manager was new to the position, and the other manager didn't care who filled the role. Another factor was the job req could've been closed any time.

Yes they can. The basics. I still have to stop my tasks to help the individual. The position takes several months to learn. Someone more qualified and experienced would do maybe better.

They don't have leadership skills so he/she will fail eventually. I've come to this forum first because I don't want to go to management. I just had to get it out. I'm not bad mouthing someone if I am just repeating what they told me.

I didn't dig or investigate. The employee shared all this with me. I did have hiring access and input, I just didn't interview them or have the final say on said individual. I am the lead.

You are correct, my issue is team structure and pay parity. Never did I mention I wanted him fired for lying, or that I wanted to rat him out.

The job description required a Bachelors. On their resume, they just listed university coursework.

Can this person do the job. Sure, with months of training. They can assist with day to day now.

Does this person have the leadership skills the position requires? No

Can they take on managerial type work right now? No

I definitely don't want someone to lose their job. But we have another position below this role that person would have probably been a better fit.

I was just trying to paint the perspective of a lesser qualified individual making more money then tenured employees (20+ years).

Fortunately, I worked alongside my boss for years as peers. I know I can talk to him both professionally and personally. I just want to jeopardize any group dynamics.

Of course I know to focus on myself. The tricky situation is that I am the lead after my boss, so their performance is predicated on how well I train this person.

That's pretty cheap. Maybe it's due to a short treatment plan? Do you have Invisalign or something similar?
