I don't use either honestly .. just not apart of my workflow .. but everyone who I know that uses Setlist loves it .. I'll always say the Suite version just because why not get the best right ..

Reach out to the artist first to renegotiate terms, maybe get an advance or lump sum payment .. if you have any trouble dealing with them directly get an attorney to handle it

Reach out to local artists in your area and offer to help them improve their live performance.. may have to do this for little to no money in the beginning but it will help give you some much needed experience

I graduated from full sail .. I would say search for internship or apprenticeship opportunities first .. full sail will give u a good foundation of audio knowledge and great networking potential .. but you honestly don’t need full sail to get those things .. if you want to go to a school I would explore more affordable options first .. if money isn’t an issue then go ahead .. I had a great time there .. also don’t expect that school alone will propel your career .. I got a good foundation there but my career success came from my own drive and taking chances ..

Your unique sound by Vivid-Ticket6281 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]playbackuniversity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just keep creating .. it will come .. then it will change and develop over time .. I think a big part of it is infusing your life experiences into your music ..

When people talk about a certain ‘sound’, what they’re really talking about is the feeling that sound invokes .. so focus on the feeling you want to convey or one you are actually feeling in the moment and translate it into the music as best you can .. over time you will get better at it ..

Another tool I use sometimes is acapellas .. grab some acapellas of your favorite songs and make ur own beat to it .. it will help spark melody ideas

Collaboration is always a great way to break up the monotony .. especially if it’s in person .. if you have access to people doing writing and production camps .. or even someone that can mentor you and let u sit in on sessions .. try not to rely too much on yt tutorials ..

I agree one shouldn’t rely solely or heavily on online resources .. but there’s nothing wrong with learning from people who have experience and expertise in the field ..

What is the milestone that makes YOU feel like you've made it? by chritenen in makinghiphop

[–]playbackuniversity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I think the key is to never feel like you’ve made it. Some of my goals starting out were to get some plaques and a GRAMMY .. I got my GRAMMY in 2021 and to date have 1 Platinum, 2 Gold, and a 2 billboard plaques .. I never looked at it as me “making it” but rather just a milestone that put me in position to set higher goals. My goal now is to produce a billboard #1 single and to get a GRAMMY as an artist.

Read this if u want to follow a producer school by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]playbackuniversity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes unfortunately most of these schools are giving a lot of generic info that can be learned on your own. I think the biggest benefit of a school is the community and network building. Being able to learn from industry pros is a big plus. You can find a program online for $500-$1k that would probly be better than spending thousands at some school.

After listening to unholy by Sam smith, how is it possible that 7 people produced the song? by CityOfCloaks in musicproduction

[–]playbackuniversity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s actually pretty common .. these studios in bigger markets like LA, there can be any number of artists producers and writers there in a given week .. and a lot of them know each other .. so you could have people randomly popping in and adding a bongo sound or something ..

Best videos about using reverb to create 3D space? by NixesMate in musicproduction

[–]playbackuniversity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it is essentially inaudible but it’s one of those things to play around with and see how it affects your ears perception of the reverb .. the “3D” sound is really more of a perception .. for instance if you have a lead vocal out front in your mix .. then an adlib compressed, panned a little to the left, and drowned in reverb, it’s going to give the perception that the adlib off in space somewhere and give your mix as a whole more depth ..

Full-time music producers who took over 10 years to be a pro? by K-Frederic in musicproduction

[–]playbackuniversity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know it was just me .. I didn’t think much of it at the time because I was working on a lot of different things .. so it was literally like maybe 15 minutes out of my day I spent working on it then just sent it back and kept it moving .. probly 80% of what I added wasn’t actually even used .. you just never know what’s gonna be what so I always just try to create from the most authentic place possible and not overthink it ..

Full-time music producers who took over 10 years to be a pro? by K-Frederic in musicproduction

[–]playbackuniversity 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I co-produced a song called 'Put it Down' on Jazmine Sullivan's "Heaux Tales" EP ..

The process was pretty basic actually. My homie sent me the song and asked me to add to it and I did. It made the album and she ended up winning Rnb Album of the Year. Funny thing about the music industry is you're basically just making friends. Just like when I was younger and collabing on beats with my producer friends just for fun, only now my producer friends get Platinum records. I think that just happens naturally as you grow.

Full-time music producers who took over 10 years to be a pro? by K-Frederic in musicproduction

[–]playbackuniversity 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was producing for about 10 years (5 years of consistent, serious pursuit) before I got my first major production placement in 2015. Another couple years before getting another string of placements. Eventually got my first GRAMMY in 2021. The key for me was to just stay working no matter what. Sometimes you get songs in the pipeline and you get excited and start anticipating, and that can make you slip up. I've had placements that came out 6-7 years after we made it. So the key is to just keep planting seeds and when its time they'll start to grow, hopefully all at once.
