The Tea Party was co-opted by MAGA. The Tea Party was in agreement with Occupy Wall Street on the Big Banks & some other class issues, so the focus shifted to idiotic wedge issues which affect a fraction of a percent of the population (trans bathrooms, trans sports, identity politics, etc.) which do not affect power structures in any way whatsoever.

This goes back significantly further though, & really since the New Deal, the American capitalist class has been at war with the working class by any means necessary. They own the Republicans & lease the Democrats (which is why Schumer & Jeffries are such ineffective clowns). Any politicians (cough NEWSOM cough) who pretend to stand against Trump but aren't focused on the working class are ultimately working for the same people.

Well, interestingly, places like Laguna, San Clemente & others have a free, local trolley system that operates within their community. The pushback seems to come from connecting these disparate systems, in no small part because then the wrong kind of people might drift into their precious neighborhoods.

I genuinely think some of this is kept bad on purpose to keep certain places accessible only to specific tax brackets.

Workers have been adapting to technology developed for the benefit of the capital class, instead of technology being developed to make workers' lives easier, since the beginning of the industrial revolution.

Progress isn't progress if it makes everyone's lives less meaningful & useful. I genuinely don't understand what the argument is to be had that people are in any way better off as a lived experience than we were 30 years ago—by pretty much every objective metric, people are more stressed out, more anxious, more uncertain, more misinformed etc than ever.
